Question about Quick Launch

Post by sandralynn4 »

I have a couple of questions about Quick Launch. Lately when I re-start my computer, it shows up. I disable it, but the next time I re-start, it shows up again. It hasn't the past 2 times, but usually it has been lately. My desk top icons also seem to get re-arranged when this happens. I'm wondering, A) if the two are related, and B) why does Quick Launch keep starting up ?

Also, I went to Tools,Internet Options,Security,Restricted Sites , and I noticed quicklaunch.com was listed there. What does that mean?? As far as I know, Quick Launch isn't bad, but I'm wondering.

Thank you :)

Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.

If you're talking about the quicklaunch near the start menu in windows, you need to "unlock" the taskbar for new settings to take effect and hold after a reboot.

quicklaunch.com?
Never heard of it, and when I try to go there, it's an error page.

Hi Norm,

Can you tell me how to unlock the taskbar? I don't see how to do it when I right click down on the taskbar. Thank you!

Put your cursor down on the blue task bar at the bottom of your screen as shown below. Press the right mouse button and the menu shown will pop up. From there you can lock or unlock the task bar.

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I don't seem to have that option when I right click. I have Windows 98SE ...maybe that's why? Here is was it displays :

Toolbars
Cascade Windows
Tile Windows Horizontally
Tile Windows Vertically
Minimize All Windows
Properties

And that's it. I had quicklaunch appear again twice today.....grrr.

Under " Properties " and window comes up with 2 tabs at the top. 1) is Taskbar options, 2) is Start Menu Options. I don't see any options to lock the toolbar. Maybe I can't with Windows 98??

You can't lock the taskbar in Windows 98.

Have you checked to see if the check mark is back in "quick launch"? I would do this too, - right click in an open space on your desktop, on the dropdown menu, select arange icons/ Auto arange.

Hi,

Yes, when I look for the check mark beside Quick Launch, it's gone. I always uncheck it, but it still comes back on when I re-start. Not all of the time, but sometimes. Regarding the desktop, I have " auto arrange " unchecked. I thought that if it was on, it would arrange my icons and I don't want that. I have them a certain way, and it bugs me when they move around....lol. I don't know why they do that?? Anyway, thanks for the post :)

Take a screen shot of your desktop, and then check auto arrange. It will change your icons, but then you take the check back out, and re arrange them like you back to the way you had them, and then put the check back in, and they will stay like you put them, and it will also lock them.

You're welcome.
If you have a graphics program like photoshop or paint shop pro, you can do a screen capture, or you could just use pen and paper and list where the icons are now.

Press the print screen button on your keyboard, it is above the arrow keys at the top left. Then paste it into paint and upload the image to a website and post the link here.

From looking at the screen shot... we can get a better idea as to what is wrong and how to help you.

Do you know how to post a screen shot for us to view?

The reason I asked you to take a screen shot was so you would know how your icons were, so when you do the auto arrange the first time, you can go back and look at the screen shot of your desktop as a reference. Uncheck auto arrange, move your icons back like you had them, and then put the check back in auto arrange. This time they will stay like you had them, and it will also lock the.

It may not move them the first time you check auto arrange, but most times it does.
If that doesn't solve your problem, you may want to try this: http://www.techadvice.com/w98/I/IconCac ... ebuild.htm
