is it possible to repair sliced tracers 9800pro

Post by Scum333 »

Hello my little friends,

I removed the shim on my 9800 Pro. In doing so I sliced through about 3 tracers.

I cannot solder them because they are so close together and thin.

Any advice? I have thought of Conductive Paint but it is expensive. Tell me whether I am waisting my time before I go to the expense.

I am sad. I bought another card in the meantime for $ 197. Ouch Ohh ehhh.

For I am Scum, Yes, but I am Dumb Scum. :(

Of course it`s repairable, send it to me, I`ll do it!! LOL

Seriously tho you could go either of the two routes you have already mentioned! (solder or conductive paint)

I have gone the solder route a few times with various cards, granted none of them were 9800Pro`s but hey...

My guess (if you`re not overly comfortable with the soldering iron) is go with the paint.

Mask off the neighbouring traces with pvc tape (scotch/3M etc) and scrape the lacquer off the ends of the sliced traces and apply the paint.

Do the same with the others and away you go

Also the plus side of the paint option is that if you apply too much or smudge it, isopropyl alcohol, and start again!

If you do decide to trash it, trash it into my bin (I`ll pay postage!)! :thumb: :thumb:

No, seriously, I`ll take it! :D :D
