Kasperysky or Nod32?

Hello everyone, my license for nod32 just ran out and i am in the market for a new A/V program. I have been happy with nod32 for many years but i keep hearing great things about kaspersky. My main concern is i hear that kaspersky is a real pig on system resources/cpu usage? The reason i went to nod32 in the first place was because it was so lightweight and still got the job done. Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

Kaspersky!

I have a 1.4 gig AMD machine with 200fsb. I could not see any slowdowns on system performance when I installed.

Thanks for the reply chpalmer, do you think there is any reason to buy the personal pro version over the personal version considering it costs $30 more?

Never used Kaspersky, but would be interested in trying it.

I use NOD32 at work. It does what I need it to do, so....

Light system hit, and the fact that's it's still held as having the most awards for detection rate from the independent Virus Bulletin, I love it!

Especially the newer 2.12 version, did your subscription last up until recently, which you would have gotten the major update a few weeks ago? This new version is INCREDIBLE!

Yeah I piddled around with the beta of it earlier, in the states it was released gradually after the 9th. Your automatic update should have received it...it was the update that prompted for a reboot afterwards.

Hmmm... not yet. I may have to manually do this on some machines.

I'll have to check my machine. I know I have yet to be prompted for a restart.

Touser3....I've read, and heard, about Kapersky being a bit of a hit performance wise on some systems. Would be curious, if you do try switching, run a benchmark or two (like 3Dmark 2003) with NOD32 AMON running, then when you yank NOD32 and install Kapersky, run a 3DMark with it's real time running.

Id be curious about the performance hit also, as I ran my last computer till 30% of the programs I tried to run needed a faster processor even to install

I am running Kaspersky Person ver 5. It's been working great for me. Previously, I used Norton 2004 and McAfee 8.0, both of which were resource hogs and noticable slowed my systems down. (we're talking AMD duallie boxes and > 3.0gig Intels)

Sorry I don't have any benches available, the only thing I can tell you is that on medium security setting, it very fast. If you use high, it scans all files including compressed files which takes a bit longer.

Thank you everyone for the reply's. i went ahead and bought kaspersky personal pro. Nod32 is great but i've had it for years and figured i would give the competitor a shot. So far it seems to be pretty good, although i dont like how the program seems to be built into several different smaller applications. I will run a benchmark app to see if there is any noticeable performance hit compared to nod32.

I've been runing Kaspersky for a few years now, since the 3.5 train.

it did get a bad rap for being a performance hog back then, only because it was set out of the box to scan archive(zip,rar,ace ect) files as well as others.(keep in mind it would scan those files anyway when you would attempt to access them.)

ver 5.0 is supposed to be pretty slick.

i'm very happy with ver. 4.5

good choice.
