I keep blue screening

Post by j0ey »

SMC caused a General Protection fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0004:000000b6 then I get blue screen...

MMTASK caused a general protection fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0004:00000502 again with the blue screen...is there something I can download for this?

I would update my virus scanner (if it is not already) and do a virus scan. I would also do a scan for spyware as well.

I dont either. Adaware, avg, spybot are showing clean, hijack log is looking tidy. Usually happens when im deeply multitasking. Do you think worms can get passed these programs? I know they search out for spyware and trojans.

Hmmm.... I would run scandisk in DOS mode to check for errors. Empty out your TEMP folder as well.

2k or xp pro is much more stable and most likey you won't have to deal with bsod every 5 mins

98 isn't bad as long as you keep it clean from spyware/virsues you have keep it clean

It's under Accessories > System tools > System information. Once in system information go to "tools" and you will see it there.

Be careful with this! Don't go replacing files on a whim.

Post back any info it gives before replacing files.

Never really felt the need to. I use 2000 at work and 98 works great for me at home.

It keeps happening. If I use the keyboard too long eventualy I get this "Mozilla caused a general Protection fault in module MMSYSTEM.DLL at 0004:000000dd4." Then mozilla closes to blue screen then to my desktop. :irate:

I think it started happening when I downloaded Mozilla. Which browser do you use? If you say Mozilla, are you running Firefox?

I just want to conferm this using System File Checker, choose extract , then specify file to Msacm.drv from d:\WIN98\. The same with Msacm.dll. I should be ok right?

Also File Checker found this to be changed FILE MSISYS.VXD Location C:\windows\system

Should I restore this also?
