Wireless Internet Speed

Post by acastorena »

I hope someone can help. I recently installed a Netgear WGR614 Wireless router. I have it working perfectly with one exception. I get horrible Internet speeds on my wireless devices. I have Adelphia High Speed Cable Internet, with three devices connected to the router. One is connected via a port, while the other two are wireless. The “hard-wired” PC has Internet download speeds of 3,333 kb/s, while my two wireless PC’s top out at 426 kb/s.

I have the router placed on my desk next to my printer. Could this be the problem? By the way, the wireless PC’s were about 50 feet away from the router, through approximately three walls (same floor).

Any suggestions???

Thanks!

I doubt that it is Internet related.
50’ three wail reduces the “Speed” of the Wireless.

Try to transfer a file between the wireless and the wired computer (No Internet) you probably will get the same “Speed”.

BTW. Make sure that all the computers have an Optemized TCP stack.

Is the USB port that it connected to a 2.0? What does your NIC require? I just upgraded my wireless NIC and had to add USB 2.0 PCI card because the USB ports on my PC were not cabable of high speeds.

Just a thought.

I'm connected via NIC on the hard wired, and wireless Dell Truemobile Cards on the others

Another reason may be because your router is a Netgear and the wireless cards are from Dell. Sometimes having the same brand for all your wireless equipment raises the speed

I had some issues with mixing brands as well. After the fact went back and purchased all equipment by same maker. Worked much better!
