cant detect my modem?

Post by Ajsie »

hi!

some months ago i could easily plug in my modem to the COM-port and my windows xp pro would detect it.

but yesterday i plugged in my modem as usual but windows couldnt auto-detect it. to determine if it was something wrong with the COM-cable itselft i plugged it in and called my home phone and the computer started from soft off because it supports wake on modem. so i dont think its wrong with the cable.

and windows reports my COM ports are functional. i have also run detect PnP modem in control panel but it doesnt find anything. so what can it be? does someone know?

thx!

With the modem plugged in and powered up, if you're in Device Manager and run "Scan for Hardware Changes" does it find it?

Does it pass the modem diagnostics built into Windows, via the control panel, modem properties?

the modem is External Creative Modem Blaster v.92 DE5721 Serial.

the port i use is COM 1 but i also tried the COM 2 port and i have enabled them all in BIOS! very weird!

i use to manage every hardware problem but this is VERY weird therfore i have no idea.

if u can give me some hints i would be pleasant...thx
