New Cable Connection won't work with Router
Alright fellas, I'm in trouble again.
I moved in with my girlfriend into a new place and now I have another ISP.
I switched from DSL to Cable, Earthlink to Comcast.
The connection works GREAT, it's soo much faster then the DSL and there are NO problems with it what so ever, that is until I unplug it from my PC.
As soon as I try and hook up my wireless router, nothing works.
So, the connection works by itself and the PC, but not over the router. Even if I use wires to go from router to PC and not the wireless card, it still won't work.
I still get all the indications from both the modem and the router that everyhting's fine, but nothing is working.
Please help, I just got the connection yesterday and I want to use it for my PS2 also, but that won't work either.
I always get a DNAS -612 Error. I connect fine to the net, but never pass the DNAS.
I tried everything from DMZ to port forwarding but nothing works.

The router isn't the problem I think. It doesn't work even if I go modem to PS2 directly. Somethings wrong with the connection.m4a2t0t wrote:Unplug the modem for about 30 minutes and then hook it up to the router and see if it will learn the routers mac address. Is the router just not obtaining a IP? If you still cant connect call your isp and ask if they used mac filtering or anything like that.
It's not the router. I just used it to access the routers settings page on its IP. There's something within the connections settings that's doing this. I can't figure it out, but the connection looks perfect.
There's a few things that bother me, maybe they're nothing, but here's what might be causing this.
When I go into the Properties Box of the Local Area Connection, and go to the properties of the TCP/IP protocol and hit advanced, everythings empty. There's only "DHCP Enabled" under IP Address, there's nothing under DNS, and WINS.
Does that section of the TCP/IP need to have something in it. IP's or values or whatever?

Many Internet Cable Providers use the MAC number of your computer's NIC (Network Card) as a mean of authentication (Password).
Since a Router comes with his own MAC number you ISP thinks that someone is Stealing Signal and disconnect. However, all current Cable/DSL Routers provides a menu entry that will allow you to Clone the MAC number of the Registered NIC. Thus the MAC number of the main computer's NIC becomes the MAC number of the Router.
Q: Which MAC number I should Use?
A: The one of the computer that works well when it is connected directly to the Cable Modem.
Q: I heard about MACK trucks, but do not know how to find Network Card MAC?
A: Download this free Proggie, unzip and Run (nothing to install). Wait a little and it will tell you these little things that are important to Local Network (including the MAC number).

Q: Unfortunately I do not have the manual of all Routers that are out there. You will have to read your Router’s manual.

Didn't work!
Yes I tried out what you said and it didn't work either.m4a2t0t wrote:what router you got?
did you try what I said?
have you called comcast nad asked what they use for authentication?
I have a D-Link DI-624 (revC) wireless router with 4 ports in the back. It sends the wreless signal into a D-Link DWL-G650 NIC.
I also tried another router and it didn't work. It was a Linksys, and it wasn't wireless.
I tried going directly from Cable Modem to PS2 and still nothing works. I've been without Socom II for 10 days now, it's killing me, I so badly want to play again.
