auto install

there is some kind of program that keeps trying to install itself when i open internet explorer i looked everywere for it i used reg clean, spybot but cant find it how do i find it or stop it...

whats the name of the program thats trying to install when you load IE.
and try a popup blocker. It could be one of those anoying things that want you to install stupid software like gator and other spyware. Also try running ad-aware, you can get it off download.com. Its a better spyware program.

i did a system restore now what i get is when i open iexplorer or aol instant messg. or when i am on the web and certain sites and i click on a link a box pops up says windows installer takes about 5 secs then the page opens

i tried ad were, spy bot all of them the box keeps coming even when i try opening programs it says windows installer preparing to install stays up for bout 3 secs then the program opens

Two things:

1.) Go Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > UNCHECK both of the "Enable Install On Demand" options.

2.) Delete everything in your TEMP directory.

i did that i unchecked that and cleaned everything out problem is not only is it doing it on iexplorer but when i open reg programs also

i think i might of had this problem once before does anyone know if it has something to do with micosoft office

i think i am missing the file windows installer i checked micro soft downloads there is a download for installer but not for windows xp now i am realizing that i have been having trouble installing and removing programs anyone know were i can find this

Windows XP comes with Windows Installer. Are you running Service Pack 1?

Try looking at The Elder Geek as well.

well i have service pack1 that i installed after i had windows but that was long time ago i think me playing with registry some how deleted this file or what ever it is i am always playing with things

i checked those links out but nothing for windows xp, ? if i uninstall service pack 1 and reinstall it will that work

i know they were for xp but there is no download for windows installer says it comes with your micro soft product so now do i uninstall service pack 1 since i installed that after i bought xp will that work, on the link u sent me it gives u a way to try to reinstall it or says regester windows install i tried it still nothing but also says has something to do with windows office like i mentioned before but i cant uninstall office keeps saying cant access windows installer
