Dogs are pretty hard to train. I know countless people who hit there dogs and crap when they do sumthin wrong. I have never hit my dog 1 time and he is very well trained!

And if you can Dicipline a dog with lower intelligence then a person, there is no need to hit your kids for any reason at all.

i only got hit with hands, but nothing else, they didnt hurt much, but i learned a leason..the teachers tho, up in Istanbul, they hit u if u do somethin bad, usually BIG meter sticks...oww..i hated my 2nd grade teacher, what a bitch she was..Yuck...But some kids do need to b disciplined tho, some of them r just plain weird, some of them got like witchcraft books in their houses, and try and cast speels and stuff. weird..

Never really got a beating when I was a kid.
Smacked up side the head yes but never a beating.
My Dad was a Longshoreman (6 foot and 230 all muscle) and he used these hand held hooks for work, a small set he kept on his belt and a big set he wrapped around his neck. (My mom would meet him outside the house every night rain or shine. I guess to have a moment alone with him and to bring him up to date on what us kids did that day good or bad)
If I did something wrong he would storm into the house and say (in a loud fog horn voice) I’m going to pick you up like a sack of coffee (fifty to a hundred pound sacks) and bring you down to the ship and turn you over to the Captain. You’ll do what he says. (I knew what he meant I had seen him at work with those hooks…and I knew some of the Captains) That was one place I didn’t want to be. (I heard the stories of the High Seas and life on the Docks from my Grandfather and uncles) most of it was true and some was meant to scare the **** out me or anyone else.

Just the sight of him coming through the door at night with his work cloths on and them hooks was enough for me (most of the time) He did wail on my bottom once can’t remember what I did. But he never ever did it again. (Something changed that day. After that I was restricted to my room. For up to Two weeks at a time. You know what 2 weeks is to a 12 year old. Forever, that’s what it is)
My mom would just throw things at us or use the wooden spoon (most of the time she would just say Wait till your father gets home) And that was it. We knew what she meant.

Wooden/Plastic cook spoons, they broke fairly often :D

later my mom just smacked us I pushed her away once, and that was it for a while.

The last few times, I ran away, and a lot of times I just forced out a laugh regardless of how much it hurt, it made them extremely angry.
Last time I remember I got in a fight with my step dad on the floor, that was the last time ever.

btw- I stopped getting spanked around 9 years old.

Geez thanks! I had forgotton all about those damn fly swatters!

But to clarify a bit, I was not abused ever and the variety of objects that landed upon my butt and other body parts did so with the proper amount of force necessary to impinge and get me to "re-think" my recent actions. This type of discipline only took place when I was unable to admit to having erred or done something bad. My parents first sought to perceive some sort of ethics change in us & only resorted to using force when all communication from them was stopped by us kids, ie we snaped back at them & were disrespectful toward them.

I have 3 kids now. I have hit them all a few times when they were under 8 years of age as a last resort. I always told them what to expect too. Usually they began to cry or realize their position a minute before the "hit". As a result, a tiny tap that wouldn't crush an ant would cause them horrendous pain!

I have NEVER punished my kids. I never will either. Punishment has no value. What has value is a system of rewards & penalties. Dirty rooms? Messes in the house? Clean it up or the TV is off! Behind in schoolwork? TV off until stats rise! The key in using a system like this is finding out each childs "too gruesome to confront" button. Everyone has some ideas and things that they consider that they cannot do without or that they can not easily face. These are the things that can be used to "force" compliance.

LOL! I'll bet that a lot of you here would get better grades in school if Mom & Dad said, "no internet until your grades improve!". Or if you were disrespectful to them your attitudes would change quickly after a day or two of no internet!

Yea, same here. My dad's intimidation factor was enough for me though. I have good morals and integrity.

My mother used psychological as well as physical torture. She would very calmly tell me to go and pick out the belt I was to be beaten with. :(

She was also very accident prone and was in a cast almost every other year. so, crutches being thrown at me was common. As soon as I heard her reach for a crutch, I ran. ;)

Cane at school.
Dad's belt at home.

Deserved at the time and no dramas in later life for the punishment.

A good floggin never hurt anyone once it was accepted as a just punishment.

Bring back corporal punishment in all schools I say!! Teaching respect has failed so maybe beating a bit of respect will work!! ;)

My mom will smack me across the head/face/ass...(you get the idea) every time I do something bad (aka everyday :D ).

My dad never really hit me or nothin. And I dont think he ever will. Although he grounds me about every other weekend for staying up late doing homework. My motto: hard work always pays off later, but procrastination always pays off immediately :D

My bro, we never fought. We were cool. Although this one time, I was on the computer and he wanted to use it, but I wouldn't get off. Crap, big mistake right there. Just to let you know, he's 20 and I'm 14. And he works out dood. He's ripped. Well, what happened was he gave me quite a few strong (and I mean strong) punches and then he picked me up, looked me in the face, and threw me all the way across the room and I hit my head really hard (that explains a few things) on the stupid frikin table. My whole body was in pain for the next few days. He apologized to me that day though. It was cool.

My sister, boy oh boy, we used to get into fights. One time, my sister and I were fighting (pushing and hitting). At first I thought I was winning. I was like, "yeah, I knew my sister couldn't fight." And before I knew it, I ended up getting clawed with her razor-sharp nails and bleeding pretty bad on my face, neck and arms  . Teaches you to think twice before messing with a girl, even if it is your older 18-year-old sister. Lol, good times.

But overall, I am doing pretty good. Nothing serious. :)

I remember only being hit twice. Once by hand because a neighbor taught me some new words :D Another time was by accident. My mom was mad at us and she got out her horse whip and as she lectured us she would ever so often smack the chair next to me and she ended up getting a bit too close to me and caught my leg. That hurt like hell. Other than that I was too affraid to act up. We always always got lectured though.
Oh yeah I remember seeing my mom grab my brothers guitar and slammed it on the floor next to him breaking it. My brother used to get all dramatic from yelling "help police" to threatening to take down my dad.
