Which laptop would you choose?

Post by Immortal »

This one?
http://www.notebookdepot.com/product.as ... tegoryid=1

or this one?
http://www.notebookdepot.com/product.as ... tegoryid=1

The only differnece I see is that the first one is both a dvd r drive and a cdr drive and the second is only a cdr/dvd drive. Both same price so in theory I should get the first one. Unless I miss something.

What are your thoughts?

I can't buy hardware without consulting the SG board of directors. :p Thanks in advance.

You're right. My home networks and most networks are wireless b. I know the internal wireless card aren't compatible. So I should get the first one then?

Thanks for the good eye. ;)

Everything else looks okay. So your choice is a DVD burner with wireless "b", or a DVD reader with wireless "g". I assume the one that is wireless "g" is also backwards compatable with "b", but I can't confirm that on the specs.

I would suggest the wireless "g" model. I highly doubt you will burn DVD's on a laptop.

Also, those are Canadian prices, right?

That's what I hear.

There's A,B and G. You need a card that can do all three. So my home network is B and school's network is also B. I'll stick with the B card then. Thanks a bunchees!

First one it is!

If anyone has objections, let them speak now or forever hold your peace... ;)

My lappy is both b and g, but the card specifically states that. I think you would be the safest to go with the b lappy.

Good luck and enjoy!!!!!

I think most if not all 802.11g products are backwards compatible with wireless b and a networks.

and BTW acer is not really a brand that I would consider, and when shopping for a laptop the level and grade of support a company/retailer offers should be considered high on the list of importance.

I've given thought to that one but the reviews aren't as high as the acer travelmate that I've put down.

I do like toshiba but I've got to trust the reviews and user feedbacks rite?.. heh.

that's why i tell you to give it a try
you have 15 days for return the lappy if you don't like it
and if you don't mind you should put some extra cash for the extend warranty.
The best way is put extend for 3 years.
if your lappy have to send in more than 3 times to fix you will get a new one with the equal price with the one you get at the same time.
My friend just burn her board and they have to change the whole new board and it cost them almost $1000

most of those laptops have integrated graphics. they're playable, but i would get one with a dedicated card at the very least, even if you don't intend to game. also 4200rpm drives are unwelcome on all these fast processing laptops. definitely wise to try before buying to see how smooth they run.

802.11g falls back to 802.11b (2.4ghz), 802.11a (5ghz) is totally different and will not fall back. so basically b and g are interoperable.

First impression. Pretty impressive. Beautiful wide screen. Can fit 2 documents side by side. Will use it to watch some movies later.

Will try to drain the battery life later.
