Exercise

Post by BaLa »

Do any of you guys exercise regularly?
If so what do you do?

I have decided I NEED to start exercising, the closest thing I do to exercise at work is
a.) getting on the fork truck :p
b.) stacking 10-15lb pallets, maybe a bit heavier even :o :D

The school I work at is campus style and I walk up and down hills and around it enough each day that that serves as my exercise. :)

the best thing I've ever found is free weights - at least for me anyway - they seem to do the most good ... I've been out of the gym for about a year - tore a rotator cuff trying to bench 405 :( I'm all healed up now, but it's real easy to fall out of the habit :(

Hopefully I'll be getting started back soon :thumb:

Nearly every day now.

Started cycling pretty heavily back in december, up to 4-5 hours a trip before second accident at which point my bike more or less died too. So I gathered up some money and joined a gym.

Tommorow marks 4 weeks of membership, I've been most days during those 4 weeks. I did pretty hardcore weights for a while many years ago, so after one try through their basic program I realised it was going nowhere fast and modified it to include about 3 times as much... and am getting decent results so far.

Personally, I don't like free weights for some exercises and I don't like machines for others. Squats with free weights hurt my knees, so I use an inclined sled type thing instead. Shoulder press on the machine hurts my shoulders, so I do it with free weights instead. In fact, any shoulder exercises on the machines hurt me... :(

Anyhow, gyms are good, mix and match free and machine weights, do 40-60 minutes of cardio *after* weights and you'll get fit and strong at a reasonable rate. Start light, build up, don't take any supplements or bizarre protein drinks until you're absolutely rippling with muscle and can't get past where you're at. I think that takes a while to get there.... year... maybe more.

maybe it is time to get my fat butt out there again.

We have a gym at work. I just started 5 months ago. I have worked up to 30 minutes on the eliptical then I work out with universal weights for 25 minutes. Bench, Flys, Lat pull downs, Bicept curls and tri cept push downs. 3 sets of 8 at high weight. I prefer cardio before the weight work. I have lost about 17 lbs in 5 months and I really havent changed my eating habits. :thumb:

used to run everyday for 25 minutes on the tredmill (don't want to lose my pweshus muskles from running too much, just the fat :D )

used to be on a weight-lifting routine:

day 1 = legs
day 2 = chest
day 3 = rest
day 4 = back
day 5 = arms & shoulders
day 6 = rest
day 7 = rest

1 phase for each month incl.: strength, power, size, ripped

I used to stretch everyday for about 1 hour just to relax :)

* looking in the mirror, my body is proportionate

note: drink lots of water

I shudder at the thought. After cardio, I'm in no condition to try and do weights, particulary free weights, smoothly and properly. 10 minutes on the treadmill to warm up first then stretches, sure, but an hour of cardio before weights? Argh.

I particulary wouldn't reccomend it for people starting out either. Half of the battle at the start is getting your alignments and balances right with the different weights, being tired and shaky from cardio isn't going to help that at all.

I find cardio post weights is good too in that it keeps the blood flowing and body temperature high, which I find goes a long way to allieviating any aches and burning post weights.

I walk anywhere from 30-60 minutes after work every day, and usually 1 hour twice on Saturdays and Sundays. After I come home, I do a few pushups and reverse pushups.

I try to do 2.5 or 3 miles every chance i get, i do curls, benchpress, and squats. I usually do situps too, but if you dont do everything on a regular basis it wont pay off as much as you want it to, I have to keep in shape for football and baseball so I have good motivation :D

Willingly exercise? Hold a gun to my head, I *might* run.

Here is what I do for a living....

Strap on a machette, 24" blade.
Load up pockets with:surveyors tape, nails, railroad spike or two, some magnetic nails, compass, tape measure.
Grab a metal detector, shovel, possibly a pick if the ground is rocky.
Hump instrument and tripod on shoulder, along with radios and data collection equipment.

All said and done ~50 pounds. Now find a steep hill. Remove machette from sheath, cut a line of sight to the top. Now go back down, now go back up. Dig a bunch of 2 foot deep holes in random places. Do this for 8 hours. Thats my exercise. :D

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.
