Is this legal?

Post by YARDofSTUF »

My HP had most of the win 98 SE disk in the options\cabs\ section, minus teh setup file and a few others, so i put the other files together of the restore disk and made a 98 SE disk.. i own teh HP and the recovery disk with windows 98 se, so i asume that its legal to copy a part of that disk adn my cabs for my own use, am i correct?

yeah you should be alright because you technically paid for the o/s with your computer.
It's good to make a seperate disk with windows so that you dont have to install all that factory junk when you reformat.

If you made the disk for your own personal use and not to sell. I would not worry! I don't see how that would be illegal!

TECHNICALLY warez are only basically illegal when sold for profit, since they can't prove of the millions of users who get pirated software, who has it and who doesn't (the backup theory). They can still nail people who serve and send copies to thousands of people, but they are after the bootleggers.

busting people that serve, jinkees! I got my backup of Windows Me from a home server, I can't wait to finally take the time to install it and avoid the OEM version I have. If I serve my backups in case someone else needs em, I can get busted? Do I have to put a disclaimer in the welcome message from my server?
