Something got messed
Ok, i have not been able to use my puter all day. I was trying to play Quake this morning, but while playing, my mouse would freeze, then my whole system just stoped. I had to turn off the surge protector to restart.
I thought everything was fine after i re-booted. I moved my mouse just a little bit and it went crazy! The cursor went right to the corner of my screen and froze. Had to turn off the surge protector again. I was doing this all day. I had no f****n idea what was going on (i still don't).
So, before my mouse froze up, i hurried up and pluged it into a usb outlet. It said it was adding the new hardware, then my computer froze.
I restarted and my mouse works without freezing.
This all just started happening this morning. It was working fine last night. I would really like to figure out what is going on because i really don't wanna use a usb port for my mouse (i have the MS Intelli Explorer optical).
Also, when i was browsing sites, the whole page would get highlighted and the mouse would freeze.
Is this the work of a hacker!? I am using InoculateIT, Zone Alarm Pro, and The Cleaner.

This is a 2 month old computer.
PIII 800MHz
128MB ram
The problems only started happening this morning.
I guess i'll just keep it in the usb port because it is working fine now.

Now the usb is starting to freeze.
The first time i plugged in the mouse in the usb port, it froze before it finished.
Should i remove the usb drivers for the mouse, then try it again?
And this morning, i did a system restor and brought my computer back to two days ago, that did not fix the problem.

Oh, good, i can still get my money back. I bought it from Curcuit City and you have to return it withing 14 days. Today is the 14th day.
Should i just get my money back, or exchange it? Did i just get a bad mouse? Or did it mess up from playing Q3 everyday?

Banshee,
too bad you didn't see my post in the hardware section about mouse problems. i was having the same problem, and going nuts! it was affecting my games and everything. finally yesterday i decided to look at my mouse (microsoft wheel optical) cord and the damn thing was nearly cut in too. it was rubbing on the back of my pc desk which has a sharp wooden edge.

I saw your post. But i could not even use my computer for 5 seconds without it freezing up. So i couldn't really get on SpeedGuide to post. When it first starting happening, it was not bad at all. But after a few hours, my mouse just stoped working.
Everything is good now, until it happens again.
I'm giving the MS Intelli Explorer optical one more chance.
