New system specs

Post by shadrach »

A friend of mine is looking for a decentely fast system for about $600, so here's what I've come up with:

Raidmax Silver 10-Bay Mid-Tower - $40.00
Antec 430W TruePower 430 - $66.00
Intel 865GBFL Socket 478 Chipset - $99.00
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 800MHz FSB, 512K, HT - $187.00
Crucial 512MB, DDR400, PC3200, 184 Pin - $82.00
WD 120GB SATA 7200RPM 8MB SE - $108.00
(all from Newegg of course...)

I choose all the parts except for the case; he really wants that one based on looks, so I talked him into getting one w/o a PS and then buying an Antec True series PS. He also doesn't play any games and wanted to get onboard video.
Intel P4 2.8 800FSB / Asus P4P800SE / Corsair 1024MB PC3200 / Antec Sonata / TruePower 380w
Asus GeForce4 Ti4200 / Seagate 200GB SATA / WD 200GB IDE / LiteOn 4x DVD-RW / Windows XP Pro SP2

Sounds good.

For non-gaming that sounds great.

Suggestion for the memory, if he's sticking with 512 megs, get a pair of 256 sticks. Or if he wants a gig of RAM, get a pair of 512 sticks.

Dual DDR wants to be run in identicle pairs.

He may go from 512 to 1GB later, so I told him get a single 512 then buy another identical chip if he wants more later.
