Can someone please tell why I cant access 208.16.184.2

which points to http://mail.buckeye-express.com and is also my my connection to the email server. I have my wipped my system clean from viruses, spyware, malware to try to get it to work but to no avail.
What could be the problem, what do I have to do to get the ip to work work on my system. I can access it fine and dandy on my other computer which is hooked up on the same internet network connection, what's the problem??????????

I can log on with no proublem. Check your Internet Explorers settings. If you have a firewall try turning it off and see if that works. I ran across a few sites I could not gain acess due to my firewall. Had to set the firewall up to accept them. Good luck . Hope this helps. If not maybe someone else can think of something.

Checked firewall settings already still nothing works. Can anyone save me from reformatting my harddrive?.

I would hate to see you have to reformat. Before you clean your computer of spyware and virus. Were you haveing any proublems connecting to certain sites or with internet explorer its self. Plus have you made sure to check your settings in your explorer. Such as security settings and the advanced settings. To make sure no one has changed them. What os are you running. If its Xp you could proubly go back in time and restore it to a point. When this proublem did not exist. If its Me or Win 98 try running a repair on the Explorer. Hope this helps! If not maybe someone else will come up with something.

I tried restoring and I have checked my iE settings but the ip still times out.

Try flushing your dns cache.

Start - run and type ipconfig /flushdns

Have you double checked to make sure that your Browsers settings are set to """Check for Newer version of stored pages:"""and set it to ------>>> "Every visit to the page"

Because if you're on --->>>"Automatically" or worse --->>>> "Never" and you had a problem once, you may never get to that sight again.

All I gotta say is Thanks Bill Gates for making IE so Fricking Stupid when it needs to pay attention to the internet it is surfing.

If you're not using Dial up, those options should be disabled by default!

The problem is in your routing table... Try resetting your table by clearing whats cached in there.... Restart your modem, and voila!!

He already said the problem is not with his Modem and/or router because another computer using the same internet connection can get to the destination just fine.

It really sounds like the Internet Explorer Settings I mentioned.

By Default, IE will look them up once, and if they are not there, they will cache the data that the sight does not exist from then on.

It's a very common problem that Microsoft should be correcting by changing the default parameter, or taking the ability to set this parameter to these cached histories.

As we no longer have dial up connections as the main source of internet connectivity, and if we do, they have a better cache application built into the ISP software packages now, anyhow.

Just take a look at where I pointed you, make the change, click apply, then try the web page.

You'll be amazed at the results.

I had the same problem too... One computer can access a website/ip and the other on the same network/internet connection couldn't...

After doing some serious diggin, I found out that the routing/forwarding table had incorrect values for the ip of the computer that was having problems... Having noticed that- I reset the routing table, flushed the routers cached dns entries, restarted the modem and voila- it worked.

I did try all of the above suggested methods before finding out that the core of the problem was a mismatch of routing occuring @ the router side- then again this could be a different problem... *none of the other methods worked*

Anyways... it won't hurt if he tries what I suggested.

Hey Messiah34...

What error are you getting when you try to access the page? "Page cannot be displayed" maybe? Try this...

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and look for the HOSTS file. Open it with notepad and look for that IP address and URL that you gave us in your first post. See if it has IP address 127.0.0.1 on the same line, usually first. If it is there, delete that line. Reboot. If not, then...

Go into your routers set up page and go to the DHCP section where you input your Static DNS info. Enter the DNS addresses exactly the way you see them in your status page. Or, give the PC a static IP address and be sure to enter the DNS addresses.

He always could reinstall Windows.

I remember a Website bug that hosed your computer so bad that all you could do is reinstall your OS from a Clean format hard drive. That was Microsofts solution. Back just when IE 6.0 was newly released and some unscrupulous warez sites Knew how to hose your computer up to kill IE beyond recovery through the use of supplying too many pop ups which broke something in IE that was unrepairable without a format and a clean reinstallation. It had something to do with " On Open New Window - IE Stalls unable to find address" But then you could cut and paste the same address in a new window you made yourself and the link would work 100% every time. It was something that p1ssed me off each and every time it happened to me, because microsoft had a whole list of things to do to try to fix it, and the one thing at the bottom of the list, format and reinstall Windows XP was the only thing that could recover. And the next time it happened, you'd have to reformat again. And there was no telling when it was going to happen. So basically it was stay away from sites with massive over kill on the delivery of pop ups and you had a 99.5% chance of never seeing the problem
