She did, but quickly had it annulled (sp?) which leads me to believe this was just a publicity stunt (or her too drunk to know better when it happened)...

Spears 'married to childhood friend'

BRITNEY Spears, the American pop singer, has married a childhood friend after a joke went too far, it was reported yesterday.

Spears, 22, wore jeans and a baseball cap as she wed Jason Alexander at a Las Vegas ceremony.

There were no family members present and the singer was walked down the aisle by a hotel barman, according to the online edition of People magazine.

A source close to the singer told the magazine the wedding was a joke that went too far. "I don’t know what’s going through her mind," the source said.

The pair planned their rushed wedding on Friday night as they partied at the Ghostbar, part of the Palms Casino Hotel in Las Vegas. They were driven to the Little White Wedding Chapel, where Natalie Maines, from the Dixie Chicks, and the actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore have also tied the knot.

When Spears found out they needed a licence, the couple were driven to the Clark County marriage bureau in downtown Las Vegas.

Documents filed at the bureau showed that Spears, of Kentwood, Louisiana and Jason Alexander, 22, who is also of Kentwood, were granted a marriage licence.

According to People magazine, the ceremony was videotaped and the singer has been showing the footage to friends.

The couple’s "honeymoon" took place at a luxury suite at the Palms hotel immediately after the wedding.

Plans are reportedly being made to annul the marriage.

Total publicity stunt...

There were apparently no hard feelings. Shortly after the annulment papers were signed, the couple on Saturday night had dinner at the N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms Casino and Hotel.

Looks like she is probably bi too. Not like that would shock anyone. What's she gonna do next for attention? Molest little boys like Mikey J?

Spears' close friend said the pop diva was publicly seen kissing both Alexander and one of her female dancers while dancing to her new song "Toxic" at the hotel's Rain nightclub on Thursday night. "It made her kiss with Madonna look mild," the friend said.

I was watching E-TV tonight and rumor has it, that since JLO and Ben Affleck were getting married in Las Vegas on the same night, that Brittney was a decoy to pull the media from JLO and Ben.

LAS VEGAS -- Britney Spears married a childhood friend from Louisiana in an early morning ceremony, then quickly arranged to have it annulled, people close to the entertainer said yesterday. Spears, 22, and Jason Alexander of Kentwood, La., "took a joke too far by getting married," her label, Jive Records, said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight.

5:30 A.M. NUPTIALS

"Ms. Spears and Mr. Alexander have filed for an annulment which will become official on Monday," a statement by Sonia Muckle, Jive's v-p of publicity, said.

George Maloof Jr., owner and operator of the Palms Casino Hotel, said Spears and Alexander were married about 5:30 a.m. Saturday at a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

"Nobody knew it was coming," said Maloof, Spears' friend.

The two arranged an annulment that afternoon in the presence of several people, including a Las Vegas lawyer.

Spears and Alexander journeyed by limousine to the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip after a stop at the Ghostbar, a club in the Palms Casino Hotel. The chapel staff told the couple they couldn't get married without a licence, so they were taken to get a licence and driven back to the chapel, where they were married.

DENY SHE WAS DRUNK

The bride wore a baseball cap and torn jeans down the aisle and was escorted by a Palms limousine driver, the source told the Associated Press.

Maloof denied rumours Spears was drunk and had to be carried out of the Rain nightclub inside the Palms on New Year's Eve.

"I was with her the whole night," he said. "None of those reports were accurate. She was just having a good time."

Spears was still staying at the Palms yesterday.

Alexander was back in his hometown yesterday.

"He'd been through a lot. We picked him up in New Orleans coming back and he didn't have much to say," his grandfather, Robert Alexander, said.

" He'd been through a lot."

Maybe it's different in Vegas, but I thought you had to wait a certain amount of time before a judge would grant an annulment (as in, more than 24 hours).

I also like how the owner of the Palms is her "friend." More like, "I'll comp your room if you blow a few hundred grand in the casino and draw a crowd into the club."
