WD vs. Seagate?..

One of my HDDs just died on my machine...

first Maxtor I had go bad on me..

I was considering the

the only siff I see...is warranty
Seagate 1yr
vs
WD 3yrs..

Axtrader is trying to convice me to get the Seagate....what do you guys think?..
he didn't know about the longer warranty...

<edit> for me though; warranty has NEVER been a deciding factory...
things...or HDDs or whatever...don't usually die just like that.....

Both are nice drives but id go with the WD

I love both. But on the models chosen, the WD does carry the 3 yr warranty...I'd lean towards that.

they are both
8mb 7200rpm drives and the same size...

I've always used maxtor - never had one die on me. I still have my old 100 mb drives, still working perfectly.

I have always used maxtor....this is the first one that went bad on me..and it will prolly be the last maxtor I bought...

b/c it died just like that....
also majority of ppls here never did like maxtors...

The WD's are great. I have been using them for many years and have never had a problem that was not attributable directly to me. Reliable and if you choose to use it, a great set-up utility.

Well all drives will eventually fail no matter what brand they are.

My brothers western digital died after 2 weeks had to rma it.

Can't even count how many hundreds of Maxtor's I've tossed in the garbage. Them and Quantums...highest percentage of HD's I throw out, of all the brands. Least thrown out brands...Seagates and WD's. The amount of hard drives that have passed through my hands in all these years....there's definitely a comma in the total count.

the seagate may be a little quieter if you're into a quiet pc. if you have a billion fans, thenit won't matter, but my WD has a slight buzzing to it that you can hear, and i have 2 case fans and the cpu fan at 2800rpm.

maxtors are plain noisy. i'm never getting one again. i had a 40GB one that was supposed to have superior acoustics, but it's superior only in that its noise can be heard from other rooms with ease. and i coudln't replace it because they deemed it normal. and it has been running for a very long time.

WDs are fast, quite quiet, and quite cheap, and probalby the best choice.

I have a few older ones that are a bit audible...
but the Maxtor L (Liquid Bearings)) Series were pretty quiet dunno about their newer drives...

I will order the WD then....
my comp is already loud...so that wont make a diff.

Take it from someone who builds many computers for people on the side, use Seagate. Ive never had a single one die on me, and they dont make a peep. I've been thru IBM's, WD's, and the rest seagates. Wait, I have one maxtor. Its lasting me.

For what it's worth I've also heard that the Seagate's are quieter than the WD's, but quietest of all are the new Samsung Spinpoint drives
