through out history, nature has used fire as a way to clean house. Many of the giant seqias and redwoods are a result of fires.
Don't get me wrong, I do feel for thsoe who have been displacedby the fire. But like they've said on the news several times, that area hasn't seen a fire in over ten years

yes true,
but one was caused by target shooting at Pendelton
one was caused by an idiot hunter
and 3 were caused by arson
and either way, with 1500 homes lost and 500,000 acres burned,
and 14 dead,
people's lives are being destroyed.
and also,if we do get some rain this winter, the flooding will be bad.

Not the way you say it. You make it seem like someone should go throw a bucket of water on it and call it a day.
Do you own a TV ? One fire had over 500 people working on it and they said they NEED 5x that.

well then they should get it, there are certainly lots more firefighters in this world
if they really really wanted to they could get the man power and stuff they need to squash these fires fast
we got enough people in this world, we got the technology, so why aren't they doing it?

remember that there are over 500,000 acres burning at ONCE!
the state is just plain OUT of resources,(like people, planes, trucks, etc)
and much of it is burning in mountainous areas that have no roads to even get to it.
and third,we have whats called "santa ana winds",which is warm air winds that blow and gust around 30,40 knots, that lasts for days at a time.

alot of the delay is government red tape crap, and yes, there are fire fighters and equipment coming from utah and arizona and idaho, etc, etc.alot of help is on it's way
(none from texas though

Well, if we sent all the firefighters in the USA to California to fight this:
1) Who would pay for it ?
2) Who would put out the fires everywhere else ?
They just have to do the best to contain and put it down without the forces of the world's superpowers to help. It is the reason we can't just go and "put it out". LOL

i hate that, BS 'red tape' like that ALWAYS holds us back, it sucks
we as a nation got the resources to squash the fires, but things like money and stuff always holds things back, bah
i hate the way things work

Where is the "BS" and "red tape" of this ? I see none. I only see a lack of money and manpower. Not much "red tape" there.
Objection ?

yes,we had to wait for the president to declare it an official "disaster ",and the national gaurd was not allowed to help til that happened, and they still are not here yet!
and the governer just declared it a couple days ago,and it takes longer than that to get any help,
and besides, with this many fires going at once, every resource is thin.
and don't forget that phone and power lines are going down too, which does'nt help much.

It's not so much a matter of technology (the means to fight the fires are there), as it is a matter of manpower. The wildfires cover such a large area of land that it makes it very difficult to fight the fires, especially when you have weather conditions that weren't cooperating (ie, high winds, dry conditions, etc)...I wouldn't even be able to hazard a guess as to the number of firefighters it would take to contain something like this rapidly, but I would imagine that you'd be talking a very large number of personnel and equipment...

I'm curious, why wasn't the National Guard allowed to help? They're controlled by the Governor, not the president...

We might be talking about two different things here...National guard troops are ran by the state. The Governor is the commander in chief of his state's contingent of guard troops. He has the power to deploy those troops anywhere in the state that has problems of this sort. We had that happen here when we had real bad flooding at the beginning of last month. We didn't have to wait for the President to declare a natural disaster for that to happen.
Maybe you're referring to federal funding? Now that would need a declaration of disaster from the President to proceed...

I think with a fire this large and moving quickly there is a shortage of SKILLED people to deal with it. You put some national guard troops out there with shovels and chainsaws and no training you are going to get a lot more people hurt.
My son ... ask for thyself another internet connection, for that which I leave is too slow for thee

sorry,I thought the NG was deployed by the president,my mistake.
That's an awsome picture.
With the Santa Ana wind blowing our way, it's hot, it smells smokey, the sky is brown, the sun is red, ashes are like snowflakes, and headlights are on during the day. And we're over 60 miles away.
The supermarket workers are on strike, as are the bus and light rail mechanics and the deputy sheriffs.
Power lines are down.
Air traffic control has moved their operations.
Flights are cancelled.
Interstates are closed.
Railroads are closed.
CALIFORNIA IS CLOSED!
Please come back later.
