Problem with LAN on wireless network

Post by CHAOSMAN »

I just got a belking 54g router and i have one hardwired pc and one wireless pc. I can get them both on the internet fine using dhcp, but no matter what i do for the network setup wizard the two computers cant see each other at the same time. One time only my wireless was able to access my lan, i have not been able to access the wireless. I ran the network setup wizard in xp pro, have both of them running as connection from router, (1st choice on second page of network setup types) and they are both set to the same workgroup but windows just wont let me access the wireless. The funny part is i have files shared on my wireless and i can see my own shares but i cant access them from wired, windows says network not accessible. Not sure what else to do, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

btw wireless is using WEP with the ICF turned off on both pcs. Also both pcs have differnet computer names but still same workgroup

wondering if this is a wireless problem or an access problem using xp pro. on the desktop have you authorized the laptop toaccess the files requested.

You might try connecting the laptop to the router by cat 5 cable, get your setup all working OK, then go wireless.
sometimes trying to set up the wireless and the network at one time confuses things and you're not sure if it's a networking problem or a wireless configuration problem

Doesn't matter what type of connection you use...

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows XP Home and a Dell XPS, also running Windows XP Home. The Vaio can see the Dell and access the files on the Dell. The Dell can see the Vaio but can't access the files, even though sharing is enabled. All computers are on the workgroup. I have a Microsoft Wireless 54G Broadband Router. A friend has a Gateway with the same router - same problem. I tried connecting the Vaio to the Dell with an Ethernet cable - same problem. I tried disabling the internal wireless link on the Vaio and using a 54G wireless card in the PCMCIA slot. It always behaves the same. Calling Microsoft (where you seem to get connected to India) is useless. I spent 4 hours one day with Microsoft support and got nowhere. They told me I should stay home from work so Redmond could call me during the week!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
DWORD KEY "restrictanonymous" = 0

Then reboot.
was suggested in another thread. I found I had to do:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
DWORD KEY "restrictanonymoussam" = 0

because after a reboot, "restrictanonymous" always seemed to get set back to 0. Still seems to work for me. I'm not sure what the difference between the 2 keywords is.

Take a look at http://www.ezlan.net, very good easy to follow guides to networking problems. I'm sure you'll find your answers there.
