I may be wrong but I don't beleive Win98 has PPPoE, you'll have to use a third party application.

Wrong.

There is a type of PPPoE connection thing, its just called Dial-up Networking.

You will need to install your dsl modem addapters, after that goto My Computer - Dial-Up Networking. Something, like with Verizon, the modem installation will create a dial-up connection, but if it didn't you will need to run the connection wizzard.

I'm sure there is a much easier way to explain it, so if my directions don't work i'm sure one of the more experianced members will come along and explain it.

I believe you're confusing PPPoE with PPP, which has been built into Windows since DUN 1.2 was released for Win95.

AFAIK...WinXP is the first Microsoft Windows OS to have (currently compliant) native PPPoE support.

I would probably be confused if i wasn't using a Win98 computer right now. If I am confused, the PPP thing works fine.

On a DSL ISP with a bridged or PPPoA DSL perhaps...but I really don't believe with a PPPoE DSL.

But I have Verizon Online DSL with PPPoE and I use DUN on a Win98 system. The setup installed iVason PPPoE adapters that you use the same way you would a dial-up modem.

Keyword...."the setup installed iVason PPPoE adapters"...there ya go, a 3rd party application that does the PPPoE authentication for you. Much like RASPPPoE, WinPOET, or EnterNet300 software.

You quoted "Wrong.

Dial Up Networking is a built in component of the Windows operating system. In Windows 9X, it supports basic dial up, and with other updates from Microsoft, PPP and VPN. But not PPPoE. You need 3rd party applications to add PPPoE support, which now the dial up can support once installed.

With Windows XP...you do not need to install any 3rd party PPPoE packages, the OS supports it natively, and the networking setup wizard will "behind the scenes" create that dial up entry for you.

Yes sludge is using WinPoet, not dial-up there is no native PPPoE in Windows 98 you must use 3rd party software, or get a router.
