Kinda perturbed

Post by Martiangod »

I'm kinda perturbed.

Name changes happen for a reason, as did when this name went into the history books, I only hold ownership because it had been my online persona for over 8 years.
When I retired it, it was for personal and public reasons here on SG.
I wanted certain people to realize that the people they hurt here, are real people, not cartoon characters, except JCOS.
Real people with real feelings and real lives. Certain people chose to treat others in uncivalized manners, and after disposal of said persons I chose to use my real name because I'm about as REAL as it gets.
I understand why some would become confused with the name changes, but I also realize, why some " Need to come out of said closet " :)

Bin there, done that.

I'll end this with, whoever you are, or aspire to be while here at SG, or in the real world, I will consider you all friends and act accordingly.

Your SG Friend, Chris

Hi Martiangod

I didn't mean to upset anyone here, i was simply expressing my opinion on the state of things with all of the name changes lately.

It has become very difficult to keep up with, at least for me. When all you have is a Name to identify with, once changed the persona is lost till one catches up, if ever. I feel it detracts from the friendly Family feeling the SG Board has always had.

It's just my opinion for what it's worth.

Cheers to All :)

Your not upsetting anyone Larry, as my alter ego stated, Your opinion is always worth something here, alot more then most.

I understand the confusion the name changes effect. This last round there were quite a few to absorb, was even dificult for me to keep up.
I think the changes have to have a ring to them if they are gonna stick fast, TonyB sticks for me, but that PattyK just kept giving me visions of the drag queen strip on Younge Street. :D

Having someone tell you you can't change your name because they will have a hard time remembering who you are is like your mailman telling you you can't paint your house a different color because he will have a hard time remembering what house it is.
Respect it.

Under the old name, there was a level of anonymity that was associated with my account. You could say things that you might not say to someone in person. Changing my name from 'Indy' to my real name was not something that I did as a flip decision. I consider SG to be an extended family, and, as such, felt the name change to be appropriate. It was liberating, in a way, to change the username to my actual name.

It does take a little while to get used to the new names, but things will settle back into normality (what is normal anyway?) soon enough :)

from the way I am understanding it, nobody is "telling" anyone else not to change their username, unless they're jesting.

It seems to me that if someone would want to change their username it would be a personal choice and soley up that person.

some very good points and some very good opinions have been expressed on the forum about this issue.

I feel that now everyone that felt the need to change their username needs to make their decisions and then we go on from here.

No one, but at some point all the threads about how name changing is bad will dissuade people that want to change their name from doing so to avoid the backlash of "Name Changer" threads that will soon follow.

Hi ScottE

Again i must question your statement about All Name Changing being Bad and to do so will bring about a Backlash.

My original Post was basically My point of view on the matter of Name changes. I tried to put it in such a manner that it might prompt others to think, Pro & Con about the subject.

What has emerged has been a mixture of feelings and good points proffered on both sides. Some very real reasons for changing ones name have emerged that i had not thought of. Thus the point of debate. To gain others views.

At no point imho was the case made to chide those with differing viewpoints. Quite to the contrary imho. Of course people have every right to do as they wish. That imho has always been the situation here at SG. This however should not mean that one cannot discuss such things in a civil and forthright manner.

The discussion was lively and what emerges from it hopefully will have at least cleared the air on the matter that has been pecked at for sometime.

Hopefully this will clear up any misconceptions you may have held.

I wasn't even talking about anything you said minir. Nor this thread in particular. Just in general about some of the things that have been said reguarding the matter. We've been down this road before.

Seriously I don't see what the big deal is about people changing their usernames, so you don't allow them to change their usernames so they go and register under another username and we're right back where we started.
Respect it.
