DSL connection freezes...

Post by Steve-O »

This problem is getting really exasperating. I have three PCs connected to a DSL router that is DHCP active. The other two PCs can up/download till the cows come home with no drops. This one machine has had XP Home reinstalled on a freshly formatted drive repeatedly. This last install of the OS seems to be the best so far. At first, I could download drivers, files, patches, XP updates, etc. en masse with no drops in connection. Lately however, I can only surf for three to five minutes before the connection freezes. I can't even refresh the page I'm on. I'm using an onboard Broadcom Gigabit LAN that worked fine for months, but now doesn't do so hot. I was considering installing a PCI ethernet card and disabling the onboard LAN. What's your suggestion/comment? Any help would be most appreciated as this has become a real hassle. Thanks in advance...

Also make sure you have the lastest firmware for router.

On the linksys goto 192.168.1.1 login click on advanced and make sure mtu is set right and enabled and block wan request disabled.

Thanks for a speedy reply. One question though, if any of the router settings/firmware are askew, why do the other two PCs work flawlessly? It seems all the router settings would apply to all the PCs across the board. Just a thought...

Thanks McCoffee. I just got your reply and have to leave. I have a question about the static IPs before I try them. Later...
