Hey Guys,
How ya'll doing. Haven't been here in a while! Anyways, I've got a question for you guys, hope someone could kindly help me out asap. I've got a clients computer here that shuts down every 9-13 mins in his house. Stays on as long as i want it to stay on in my own house and in a lab where we test computer hardwares. I had his buy a surge protector just for the heck of it to see if that does anything. My first suspect was the power supply but then again like i said it stays on as long as i want it to stay at my place (or at least haven't experienced that problem here). My clients office where the computer resides is fairly hot, but not to a point where you'd melt 'cuz he works there ..
I've tried cleaning off the thermal paste off the CPU and putting new Artic Silver paste but unfortunately it didn't help. I'm getting ready to take the computer back to his office maybe with the power supply swapped. But before I do that, I need your help. Can anyone think of anything else other than the power supply? Thanks a lot for your help.

wow i appreciate the quick responses. Sid, thanx for that idea, I already got a multimeter this morning all ready to take to his office for some testing tomorrow As far as the PSU goes, i don't know too much about it but it's a pentium 4 approved 400w psu but the poor thing is running AMD athlon 2200+, which should cause no problems as far as i know. the mobo is (i know you guys r going to freak out) a jetway mobo. Sorry coudln't tell u the model # off the top of my head (i'm at work right now). Hmm.. works fine when it's with me, barely work in his office.. I could only think of over heating of the CPU and/or bad power outlets.

Are u using the same power cord 2 connect to the pc @ the clients office and @ ure house?
Maybe he has a bad wire?!
Does it shut down when in use or even when it just is on?
Do u use double data rate mode? if so make sure the mem frequency is equal 2 the base frequenty of the cpu bus.
iow if u have fsb266 run the mem @ 133.

LOL...yup, I'd want to walk away from owning the problems that computer has. Clone built from TigerDirect parts? 60 dollar mobo...LOL.
When you run the PC at your house, are you pushing it? Or just letting it run at desktop? I'd push it...try to run heavy apps, defrag, scandisk, folding, sisoft sandra stuff....tax that system, may find it does odd things when pushed that it would't show you if just sitting idle at desktop.

The problem was what i guessed at first. Heat! I took the comp back to his house along with a thermoeter and a multimeter. Checked the room temp while i checked the power outlet for unsual signs. His room temp that day, unfortunately, was 72 degrees and the comp ran just fine. Haven't heard from him since then.
p.s. his room used to be around 90 degrees or so. he wants the comp to work in that kind of environment
