Texas Chainsaw Massacre based on a true story???

Post by cho »

The new movie coming out says it is based on a true story....so...is it???

I've tried searching and the best thing I've could find was stuff about a man named Ed Gein.

How does that make it a true story? was the house the first movie was shot in the actually house of the murders? Or are you referring to Ed Gein's house?

I've never seen the movie so I don't really know what happened.

It's a partially true story.

If you want to know who the story is modeled after...look up Ed Gein.

There is no real crime in Texas of a man killing several people with a chain saw. It's all loosely based of Ed Gein, a man from Wisconsin, as UOD has already posted.

i just watched the 70s version of the texas chainsaw messacre and then i tried to find out the 'true story' part. actually i was kinda disappointed that they could say it was based on a true story.. really it was a guy who killed 2 women and ended up robbing a lot of graves and made furniture and stuff out of people...

thats a big difference from the movie.

Ed Gein killed more than 15 people....it's really uncertain because there were too many pieces to put together to get an exact count.

IMO the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" by Tobey Hooper was a masterpiece, and I can't believe someopne thinks that they should remake it. Kinda like Gus Van Zandt remaking "Psycho", pointless (from any perspective other than $$).

I'm curious to see if it is in fact a shot-for shot remake, like Psycho was or if it is a reinterpretation of the original screenplay.
