WinXP disable mouse acceleration for games?

Post by HongKongPolice »

I finally caved in 'n switched to WinXP and after a few hours of tweaking, I'm finally settled in except for the mouse acceleration issue in games... Win2K seems to disable it automatically, but XP does not, and its impossible to play CS now. Using a microsoft wheel mouse optical.

I can disable acceleration manually through the control panel, but then desktop tasks are a pain without acceleration. I tried installing logitech mouseware since it has a "disable acceleration in games" option, but needless to say, it doesn't not work with a microsoft mouse.

How do u guys deal with this issue??

found with the search function.......

"Mouse Acceleration Tweak

Most people who play games like quake3 and counterstrike know this.

The tweak was found by finding a logic order in the 64-bit hexa-decimal values at the below regestry-entries. When trying different values, you should come up with a diagram wich displays a curve, this is the unwanted acceleration. Adjusting the values that the curve becomes a straight line rosolves the mouse-acceleration.

1. Safe the following text to a .reg file and doubleclick it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"SmoothMouseXCurve" =hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,
00,00,40,\
01,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,05
,00,00,00,00,00
"SmoothMouseYCurve" =hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,
00,cd,4c,\

,00,00,00,00,00

2. Reboot your computer "

Yes, i've already tried that, it just disables acceleration entirely which makes desktop tasks a pain.
