Question for Speedguide Dog Owners

Post by twisted »

I'm picking up a Doberman puppy soon and was wondering what brand of dog food you recommend? I had a boxer in the past and fed him a Canadian dog food called Shurgain (sp), but it was a hastle to get since I live in the States and I only used it because my breeder highly recommended it. I have not asked my Doberman breeder yet what she recommeds, but hers will only be one opinion. What do you think?

You can tell by the size of their poop. If they are making huge piles then their food is crap. If not then it is good.
Respect it.

If money isn't too tight then I recommend a premium food such as Science diet or AIMS. It's good for them & like agentbeast says it keeps the poop minimal! I have 3 dogs on AIMS lamb formula and it's wonderful.

You may want to look into the B.A.R.F. Diet (bones and raw food)
We are thinking about putting our dogs on it.
But at the moment our dogs eat NUTRO.

Iams.
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

I have heard of BARF, but it seems complicated and kind of stomach wrenching to prepare...I'm sure it is healthy.

(De Plano here)

Innova is real good, right now I am using Canidae, seems good. California Natural is pretty good, real simple so it is good for dogs with allergies. Innova is real good, but it is EXPENSIVE. I will tell Humboldt about this thread and he can give you a full lecture on dog foods and brands and things to consider.

ask your vet. my wife's a vet...she tends to read through the labels and picks out the food based on what's in it and the health/age of the animal.
