I went today to the PC Expo they have every year in NYC at the Jacob Javitts center.
I have been going to the tradeshow for the past 6-7 years.
Every year has been pretty good, all the big vendors, from Microsoft/IBM/Dell/Intel/HP/Palm and all the rest you can think of and plenty of others you havent heard of usually have exhibits, give you free tours and free demos of upcoming products, usually free gifts as well, and lots of hot women because the vendors know us PC guys love hot women next to our PC's so always have them demonstrating everything
Anyway my point was...this year was horrible. There was no big vendors there at all except for IBM, everyone was absent, only about 30% of the space was taken up at all.
I asked what happennd, and they said many vendors just didnt want to show.
Really bad...dont look good for the IT world.
I have never even seen the show like this.
Bad signs for the PC / IT sector

Micron projects the first money making quarter in a long time for their last quarter this year.......
They have been wrapping money around their memory chips before shipping for a long time..

The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

A propos, here´s an article from the Harvard Business Review, quite a long read but IMO worthwhile. The gist of it is that the IT has become a commodity, hence it no longer is a strategic advantage for companies.

Maybe, the odd thing is they have always had it in June
For some reason this time for the first tiem they had it in September
Hmm....not knowing the city well, anything that would have affected JJC for June? Wondering why, if they always had it in June, they switched to Sept. September being a tough time for many to travel for a bit (school and family adjustments from that being one reason)
