Hurricane Isabel

Post by cybotron r_9 »

Yikes, this one could get nasty.

Maximum sustained winds are near 135 mph...215 km/hr...with
higher gusts...making Isabel a category four hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale. Some slight additional
strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 45 miles... 75 km...
from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up
to 175 miles...280 km.

I hope the damn thing fades away in the Gulf somewhere. Last year we had two of them hit back to back. I was without power for days and it cost people too much money and lives.

I remember Hugo when I was younger (I lived in NC at the time) it looked like a HUGE atomic bomb. We were driving during its passing and you could literally see a wall of rain coming straight at you, its perfectly dry then you hear shhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and its like someone dumped a 10000000 gallon bucket o' water on the car. Hurricanes aint nothin to mess with, they cause alot of damage.

I live 20 minutes south of Lafayette Roundeye. Let me tell you we were ground zero for that category 2 that came in (can't remember the name now). It had been a category 4 but dropped right before it made landfall (thank god). There were 50 year old oaks uprooted, my neighbor had 3 trees fall on his house. It looked like bomb had dropped on the town. :(

Anyways that was a cat 2, this is a category 4!! If it makes it into the gulf without encountering and significant landamass it'll blow up even larger and become a real horror.

they aren't for sure yet. Last i heard it was only moving at 9 mph across the gulf and they aren't able to predict that many days in advance when it nears florida. Many of them just turn up the coast.

If I'm not mistaken, it's headed for the Gulf Stream waters along the east coast. That water is warm.

Actually I plan to have her make landfall on the East Coast. It's been a while since I've stirred things up there. I'm getting tired of putting all of my attention on Bermuda lately.

You're forgetting that my Prime Directive is to create mayhem and chaos....but you seem nice, for a nympho, so I'll perhaps steer her to the side of CT.

We have Long Island, and Fishers Island, which usually protects us pretty well.

Fall season though, all my buddies with personal watercraft all get pumped up. The swells coming in from the leftovers of the hurricanes get IMMENSE. Man, the air we can catch hitting those at 50mph. Whoopieeeee!!!

Christ the damn things pointed staright at my house!

Which.. now that I think about it, might not be a bad thing. I mean, sure I'll lose all my stuff when it's wiped away, but before that happens I'll evac with my computers and everything else is insured.

AND, since I'm set to close on a condo on the 22nd, if it survives this I'll be fine in it (and get a highpressure wash at the same time for free! Woot!). If not, then I walk away losing my 500 dollar deposit... but not stuck with 185 thousand dollar piece of rubble.

/me nods.

Bring it on!

/me goes and dbl checks insurance for fire, flood, and hurricane. :D

Regards,

Perfectly timed to hit NC right when I'm there on vacation house hunting.

Guess I'll have to eat the plane ticket cost and wait until the following week to see what survived. :(

I was stationed in Goldsboro from '91 to '99 so I was there for Bertha, Fran and a couple of others that weren't bad enough to stick in my head. We used to play mud football between the dormitories in the middle of the storm.

I'm scheduled to drive from TX on the 19th or 20th, depending on how I feel. Hopefully it speeds up and is out of the area by then or shortly after. My ticket is to fly back to TX on the 1st. I hope I get a chance to use it.
