what vid card is best for the buck right now?

Post by AMPLIFRIER »

I have a g3Ti500 right now

what cards are out there in the 150 to 200 dollar range that will give a signifigant enuff increase in performance to warrant spending the dough on a new card now.

i have an Nforce2 mobo with AMD xp2800 and a gig of corsair (running dual chanel)

the g3 i have seems to do very well.........but i know if mine looks that good then there is MUCH better out there.

just been out of the loop for a while in the vid card scene.

TIA

thanks for the lightning quick response there Burke lol

sorry.....forgot to mention that id like to stick with nvidia.

BUT........before i commit to using and Nvidia card..........is there any known drawback to using an ATI card on an Nforce mobo?

i can only imagine that an Nividia base card would run better on an nforce mobo.......or is there no real benifit?

thanks

radeon9600 pro is amazing for the buck. I had problems running the 9500pro myself.

I'm playing max payne with 1600x1200, eye candy off. Running at this resolution, there is no difference that I can discern between the 9800pro and te 9600pro. It'll play 1280x1024 with aa4x and af 16x.

plus, it oc's like a madman. 100mhz plus on the memory (200mhz actual) and 30mhz on the processor. The memory is ACTUALLY DESIGNED to run this fast, so it's not really oc'ing.

ati has really done some great jobs here.

the 9600pro aiw is coming VERY soon too, great deal on that!

My 9500 Pro runs fine with my nForce2 and I didn't even reformat when I yanked my old GeForce2 Pro out. 9500/9600 Pros are the best mid-range cards out there right now.

Seriously, only the worst fanboys will refusen to go ATI now, they have gained obvious dominance over Nvidia, so i vote the 9600 pro. If you want to go nvidia (i mean MUST -cough -bad idea- - then get the 5600.

9500 pro stock is great. I tried to mod it to a 9700 and made my bios crawl. Love the card and you cannot beat the price.

"Bang for the buck" means most performance for the least amount of money, brainiac. A 256 MB 9800 Pro doesn't fit that description.

9600p
Or if you can squeek a couple of more bucks out (you'll go a hair above the 200 mark)....a straight 9800.

9800NP is just a hair more than a 9500P, if you're looking to spend around ~200 for a card might look at spending 20-30 more and get a 9800np. It's worth it. Most 9800NPs can be flashed to a 9800P no problem too.
