wireless internet problems

Post by 5KyL1N3 »

I have a linksys wireless router and a wireless pc card for my laptop and one computer that is connected to the router. I have internet access and everything but when I try and view websites, like speedguide.net, sometimes, images wont show up or have "x" for the images, then when i refresh, sometimes, it will show 100%, sometimes it will not. even when downloading any size of a file, most of the time, the download will freeze randomly. Even when downloading with download managers, it will just freeze randomly.
Now if i connect the cable modem directly to any computer, the internet runs fine, no errors or freezing. so i am guessing its the router.
is there a way to fix this so i wont have to constantly hit F5 every two seconds to browse a site?

btw, when i play games, the internet doesn't freeze. only when downloading files and browsing websites is when the internet freezes.

PLEASE help me.

wow. thanx for those links, the other threads' post about setting the static ip was confusing but those links helped clear it out. i think it did help out with my problem a little bit with my browsing but my downloads still freeze in the middle just whenever.

oh well. thank you anyways for helping me out! i really do appreciate it. and i do believe i have the latest firmware for my router. latest update April 2003?

I've had horrible experiences with Linksys PC cards. Some of them wouldn't hold a signal a few feet away from the point.

Try virtually any other brand of card and you will see an improvement. I recommend an Orinoco card, which can be purchased from buy.com.
