Here's everything you guys need I think

:

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

Im running on Windows XP, and my isp is Videotron. My download speed limit is 5 MBit, and upload is around 80 KB/s.

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 & Ad Aware 6.0 to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.

well I used cablenut as you said, but I didnt notice much improvement.. maybe 10-15 KB/s more..?

What really bothers me is that, the download speed is very fast when I start downloading, but it degrades to a point where the download just stops, then resumes where it started at a much lower speed.. for example I start at 600, it goes down to about 450 KB/s where im suposed to be, slows down to 300 KB/s, freezes, then download back at 190 KB/s, which is way too slow for my connection.

Is it because of the packets..? any idea..?

Didnt seem to increase.. when I did it before tweaking, it was around that. Kinda slow for 4 Mbit though :/

edit: what really bugs me is the frequent "freezes" in my downloads, then the sudden drop in speed.

OK what firewall are you using?

Have you scanned for spyware with BOTH Ad Aware & SpyBot?

Have you updated your NIC drivers and what is your duplex mode set to?

Have you reset your cable modem?

I dont think im behind a firewall, at least I dont think so. Im behind a router though..? Also, the default firewall of windows XP has been turned off.

As for spywares, I just formated my computer yesterday and didnt download anything like kazaa, etc. Ill do a scan, but I doubt that I have some. Better scan and be sure I guess

My drivers for the router are up to date, and as for the duplex mode.. im not sure. Where can I find this information?

I just reseted my cable modem now that you mentioned it in your previous post.

Do the static ips that is most likely ur problem also add the metric right here there is to links one on how to make static and one how to add metric. Do that you should be set if slow speeds still occur it's either a. router configuration with the wireless or b something on isps end.

trick if im not directly connected to the router no u can't use the metric if you are off the router. Take a couple of speed test there is nothing you could do about latency.

Well, there HAS got something that I could do...

the computer that is connected directly to the router is 100 KB/s faster then me (downloads at 400 KB/s max, while my max is 300 KB/s)

Well routers do have a function that gives more bandwith to the computer that uses the most bandwith, also they have an election process that goes by mac address. You could try the metric and also the static ips how far away is the other comp from the router the 100kbs one??

I'd say about 15 meters away. Also the computer that is getting 400 KB/s is the least used.
