I dont see why you'd want AOL DSL. There are only 2 reasons you might want to use AOL: 1 Parental controls, aka Porn Gaurd 5000 and 2 you want your AOL email, other than that I see no reason to limit youself with AOL. If you are able to get ANYTHING else, I'd highly recommend doing so. I used to be on good ol' AOL dial up until a few weeks ago, because of my location not by choic4 now i use DSL provided by my phone company. I used AOL Broadband at my friends house-(only reason they have it is for the Porn Guard) and it was considerably slower than at my house( 1 mile away). My dad tried to sign us up with AOL Broadand Bring Your Own access, for the email. Needless to say I almost kicked him in the pans :)

Okay, I'm confused! SBC says you have too much line noise yet AOL will let you have DSL. Isn't it the same line and has to be qualified for DSL? Looks like AOL has lower standards than SBC. I wonder how good the connection can be?

Or am I missing something here?

I'm not being a smartass, but have you checked the line from the wall to the modem?

Back to basics. You should be able to plug a phone in the Network Interface Demarcation box to check for line noise. The phone will be connected to the line where it enters the house with all inside lines disconnected. If it is clean then you have some noise producing equipment inside or inside wiring is bad. If it's outside, then the phone company is required to fix it.

If your line has static when you pick up the phone, your telco (in this case, SBC) has an obligation to remedy this. Insist that they fix this, then worry about getting DSL.
