Hello I live in Israel, I have disided to make this post after Reading the only 9 posts in this forum made by israely surfers which was asking for help, and therye disability to asnwer questions about vaps and limitations set by theire isp and the likes, so id disided to give some information to make alot of peopels life easier.
First of all, I am using dial up 56k curently, had ADSL for a while, but was drafted into the army so now I Bearly have enouf income to afford dial up, Fairly familier with tweaking, how ever not on expert levels such as you guys (mnostele and lobo) and others.
Fairly formilier with Reg files and editing regestry manuly.
TO THE POINT:
First of all, in israel all DSL is ADSL, not including ethernet, and cable.
* All ADSL is POPPE (not sure that I wroate it corectly, but You are requayerd to dial to connect to the internet no matter Your ISP).
* I have never encounterd or heard of a posibility to conenct to the Internet (on an ADSL conenction) that You cooldent make a normal connection in "network conection" and you was forced to use the Dialer, Meaning there is alwais a posibility that You can get all the info you need to set up your own dialer, insted of using hte ISP's program, IF You but the ISP tech support enouf.
* To the best of my knowledge all there are no limitation or caps on the Clients computer, meaning there is no limitation that the MTU or any other setings that the Client may set.
* In Israel the bandwith (not sure about the speed) that are prommisd by the ISP's are almost never upheld (unles these are very expencive ISP's), no matter what the end Clinet does, iven if the client tweaks hes OS to the maximum.
* AQUANET is the cheapest ADSL ISP there is here in israel, and they Provide Bandwith acordingly, I cant give hard numbers coz I dont remember them but if on a 512k Download, Your caped at about 64kbs if Your ISP is auqnet Your caped at about 35k !!!, its (no idea about speed since I was never conected threw AQUANET)
* In most connection deals, or what ever its calld, the ISP provides the modem for the ADSL, it loans the modem, and if the Clinet bugs the tech support enouf, they change the modem that they loan to the Cient (I wroate this so You master tweakers can understnad that in a country as poor as Israel no one Ever buys modems for ADSL.
* The speedtest site, or what ever its calld, which shoold show your ping, to a country or somting, is of no use to an israely since the israely has no need to ping the outside of israel.
* most Israely Gamers who use ADSL play inside isreal and if they Tweak theyre conection to the maximum shooldent have a ping higher then about 60 to israely gaming servers, meaning if they get a ping lower then 50 theyre conection is tweaked to the maximum. (was deep in the Online gaming scenece at one point of my life). if they have dont all the tweaks you recomand and still they have problems, they shoold try to reconfigure the games they are using, I mean that in games like Quake3 CS and others of that sort, I mean that theyre pings dosent nececerely depend on theyre Tweaked OS.
* BTW, I dunno if its true or not, but from my own expirience I have found up that on dial up the ISP also caps, the Bandwith it is soupoused to privide, meaning, I read somewhere here that the Bandwith You are suppoused to get if you connect at 50,000 is about 50k/8, the real deal is that you never get anything higher then 5.5kb or so, which also depends on the amount of peopel surfing on dial up at israel at that moment.
I Really Hope that I made Your life easier with this post, I wish that the Isrealy people woold be more kind to your efforts of helping them, and curse alittle less
