Raise My Mtu

Post by OD_Hunter »

Is there any way i can raise my MTU up to 1492.... because i heard it from this website..
http://dslnuts.com/pppoe.shtml
it said that i can raise my MTU to be at 1492.. i tried raising it my self in the registry settings then i restarted my comp but in the anylizer test it show that it is still at 1480.. all i want to do is raise it up to 1492... can sumone help?

1480 is the proper MTU for using XP's native PPPoE setup. If you want to raise it you have to use other PPPoE software to do so, if you decide to do so then you must also adjust other settings that are based on your MTU. Raising it won't increase your bandwidth.

hey i tweaked my settings acording to the calculatar w/ Cablenuts thingy and here are the results..... also my speed it says... 400.0MPS LMAO why does it say that lol it used to say 10.0MPS....

TCP options string = 020405a001010402
MTU = 1480
MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 11520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 11520

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
506880 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
253440 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126720 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63360 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 460.8 kbps (57.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 184.32 kbps (23.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 54 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 01011100

Precedence (priority) = 100 (flash override)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 1 (low cost)

Your TcpWindowSize is too low, what was your max latency under a load?

ok Steel here are the results....... i think there is something wrong... also Please help me raise my MTU to 1492....

TCP options string = 0204059201010402

OK what did you do to lower your MTU? It was 1480 like it should be. Change whatever you did.

lol steel u must have given me the wrong settings cuz i went to the cable nut calculator then i put in my down/up in caps and my latency(Tracert while downloading a file) then i calculated it and then it gave me the settings to put in the cable nut and here is the new anylizer test results...

Why do you want 1492 anyway 1480 does the same it doesn't really matter what mtu as long as ur in xp 1480 and 1492 is the same.
