I'm Buying a Laptop - Should I invest in Ram or HD Space?

Post by Blitz »

Should I purchase a system that will give me more Ram for the buck, or more HD Space?

I don't download movies or anything, so I guess Ram........but then again, you can't really upgrade your HD for Laptop, so......

The hard drive can be upgraded just as easily as the RAM can.

 both can just be pulled out and replaced through access doors on the bottom.
Respect it.

Oh really.....Didn't know that.

In the systems discussed in my other thread, for $100 more I get 512 MB DDR Ram + 40 GB.......or I could save $100 and get 256 DDR Ram + 60 GB?

Which would you reccomend?

Like Brent said, it all depends on what you're using the laptop for.

Music as in MP3s? If so, then you're better off going with hard drive space.

However, if you're going to use Windows XP, the minimum RAM I'd go with is 512 MB.

The HDD is gonna be slow and you aren't going to want to be using the page file alot so go with more RAM.

Yeah, you'll probably get a 4200 RPM drive with a high access time unless you pay more and get a faster one. But more RAM is ALWAYS better, whether it's a desktop or laptop.

The only laptop using 7200 RPM drives right now is the Alienware Area-51. That beast uses a 7200rpm 8mb cache drive. But that machine is more of a desktop replacement than a laptop.
