Switched cable and dsl modems to different rooms problems help!

Switched cable and dsl modems to different rooms problems help!

I traded my cable modem for my brothers dsl now both do not work in the different rooms different computers but when I switch them back they work, what could be the problem?.

Did you renew and release your IP on both pc's?

Start run and type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. Sometimes your IP sticks and you have to do this, even sometimes it requires a reboot.

Did I miss something here? He swapped cable and dsl modems, so how can that even expect to work? Cable modem on dsl line and visa versa?
3Mbps/386Kbps DSL PPPoA via local phone company, Speedstream modem/wireless.

Renewing the IP addresses was a suggestion to solve the problem and the directions on how to do that were given! I haven't seen a response on whether it did work. I'm still not sure that a cable modem will work with dsl and visa versa.
