Network Cable Unplugged??

Post by Tuz76 »

OK

I have 2 pcs.

On the server. I have cable modem directly attached. I also have another network card that I use for a private lan to the other PC.

Both are running win2k and connected via crossover cable.

I am sharing my cable connection through the broadband nick and everything works fine.

(private network is fine) and (internet is fine on both)

OK overnight. NOTHING CHANGED AT ALL.....

I come to my PC and the PCS cant see each other. So I changed crossover cables and there was still no connection......

Now In the network properties of the router PC, the private nick says "Network Cable Unplugged" in the status column. The other PC is fine but it is flashing between "Enabled" and "network cable unplugged".

Now what do you think is the problem here? How do I test

1) My network card is not stuffed
2) the other PC's Network card is not stuffed
3) That its not a problem with the PCI Slot in the router PC
4) That its not a problem with the PCI slot of the client PC?

What happened? It just happened all of a sudden.

Thanks guys for your advice.

I'm wondering if auto-negotiate between the NICs is failing. Try manually setting speed and duplex?
