I am not able to reach my cap on one my computers. Here is the config:

1) ISP: Videotron montreal
2) CAPS: 4Mbits/640Kbps
3) Wireless router connected to the modem, my computer has a wireless usb.
4) I have windows XP
5) Used Adware and Spyware ( I am clean, woohoo !!!)

I'd say about 15 meters away. Also the computer that is getting 400 KB/s is the least used.

Well, there HAS got something that I could do...

the computer that is connected directly to the router is 100 KB/s faster then me (downloads at 400 KB/s max, while my max is 300 KB/s)

I don't have any static ips set, as for my router its a netgear wireless router MR814

I dont think im behind a firewall, at least I dont think so. Im behind a router though..? Also, the default firewall of windows XP has been turned off.

Didnt seem to increase.. when I did it before tweaking, it was around that. Kinda slow for 4 Mbit though :/

edit: what really bugs me is the frequent "freezes" in my downloads, then the sudden drop in speed.

well I used cablenut as you said, but I didnt notice much improvement.. maybe 10-15 KB/s more..?

What really bothers me is that, the download speed is very fast when I start downloading, but it degrades to a point where the download just stops, then resumes where it started at a much lower speed ...

As for my isp's caps.. last time I talked with a technician I remember that he told me that I should be getting 600kbs. Pretty far from the 10kbs (day and night ) that im getting uh? :)

Also, the same day that the technician came to change my modem and replace some cables, I was getting 250 kbs all ...

I have no virus, since I just formated this morning. Also, I doubt its a cable problem, since the last technician that came changed the cable headend drop to my house and he checked the connections at the demarc.

Someone came last week lobo, he changed something outside and now I can go up to 250KBs. Before my max was around 150KBs. Im not gonna ask them to come again

Well the problem is, my modem is capped at around 350k. I can get another one that goes up to 850KBs, BUT, I can download monthly only around 6 Gig. With this current modem, I can download an upload as much as I want.

Should I change it or not, hmmm...

Hi again,

I tried to call them, but they woudn't tell me the Cap. But my guess is that my modem can go up to 300-350 kilobytes/sec . Unfortunatly, when I run the test, I only get about 270 kilobytes ( with TCPOptimizer ).
