I live in NJ...no telling what state or country the server is actually in....so localhost is not even on my radar.

I know how to setup a server and all that...if I own and operate the ...

no idea if you've solved your database problem, but i'm running apache/mysql at home on a windows 2000 server with a number of databases, and you should probably be using LOCALHOST or 127.0.0.1 for yoru server address.

512MB to 768MB

i found some decent deals for a stick of 512 for my laptop (currently 256-256). is there a respectable gain from this? i'm noticing tons of lag running adobe premiere, and encore dvd working with about 50GB of audio and video :) . not sure if it's worth the $40-50us i'd be paying for the memory ...

it's not about the number of megapixels as most consumers think (i'm speaking as a reasonably experienced photographer). lots of stuff is important in picture quality.

as a very rough estimate, a 5MP camera gives a resolution of 2500x2000. an 8MP camera would be the equivalent of roughly 3200x2400 ...

any camera that's not a DSLR will focus relatively slowly. in that respect, sony has one of the finest AF systems using the laser hologram rather than the typical lamp. you might like the DSC-W1, DSC-p100 the DSC-V1, or the DSC-F828. the latter two can use external flashes.

do you think you really ...

dns round robin

if two servers are set up to balance load using round robin, will the dns server be able to fall back onto only server 1 if server 2 goes offline, or is the process passive and leave every other user with a server error as they are referred to the offline server?

thanks,

smartdrv...enables drive caching. huge performance difference.

if you're booting from DOS, most boot disks have a program called smartdrv.exe whichyou simply run at the dos prompt before running setup. it's on all win9x cds and probably online too.

yes. yours is 184 pin, the most common type at the moment.

ddr in desktops can only come in one form with 184 pins. it looks alot like sdram, but has 1 notch in it, vs sdram which has 2 notches and 168 pins.

so something is up with the ram. any suggestions? the fact that it's running at 254 confuses me as to why it doesn't run.
