correct answer in that yes the server is dropping the connection because of an issue with the nic card and XP's internal pppoe client.

have you seen this error, if so please leave a description of the dsl modem and trouble shooting steps you performed

18,500 feet is the barrier for obtaining dsl however the possibility of connecting on a remote terminal via fiber optics may be an option for you. Think it over and go with cable in the time being.

it is simply DHCP requesting an ip address every 10 minutes or so depending on how you have it configured/ add this to your registry settings:
