Installing XP Professional, stuck at a certain point.

Fresh installation of XP, at the bulleted list, it's on installing windows, and it's been stuck at "registering components" for quite some time, and it has 13 minutes left. I've tried it several times now, and that seems as far as it's going. I'm not sure if I have to go back the setup and delete ...

Not sure what you mean here Jim.

CD scratch remover is a paste that you wipe on the CD and polish it.
Do the entire CD, because there's no way to tell where the directories are.

Kind of a funny question (unless I'm out of touch with reality here)

Sorry Norm, what I meant was when it said the ...

Burke, Thanks for your prompt response. I'm going to ask you however, if a "cd cleaner" would be able to fix this? Because I can get a cd cleaner from someone. Also I am pretty sure the actual cd-rom drive is clean.
Thanks again.

Problems installing XP Home

This is a fresh installation of a formatted hard drive. During installation from the WinXP cd-rom, after a few times where it asked me for certain .dll files and .sys files, which couldn't be located. The olny CD I had was my WinXP cd, so I had to skip them. When it completed that, it took me to the ...

If you want to see what is taking up space, then download this program.

First thing I would suggest Jim is to download a free software firewall like Zone Alarm. It will allow you to use AIM and Bit Torrent no problem. Once you are secure that way I would update your anti-virus and then download a program called Stinger from McAfee's site and run it in safe mode. See ...

I looked through settings and whatnot, and it finalizes for me automatically. I'm pretty sure I'm burning the CD properly because it takes around 4-5 minutes or so to burn it (I guess this is a realistic time). Then when I look at the file sizes they're all 44 bytes, argggg. Perhaps it's these Lite ...

Nero, it seems to burn fine, but then I tried to use it in a portable CD player for a test but it didn't work, so I look at the properties of the files and each file was 44 bytes.

I've never bought a burner before (yes, I live in the Stone Age) and have some birthday money to spend. The thing is I don't know much about burning CDs and all that stuff... I would like a burner that is reliable, easy to use, and has a software bundle decent enough that I don't have to go out ...
