The compression technology behind V.92 seems to give a bit of a bump, ok if you live in the burbs I guess.

Fact remains that if your analog line is sh*tty or has plenty of static you are still bound to 26K-like speeds.

I believe that refers to the WINSOCK file that establishes TCP connections for you when accessing the net. Wouldn't worry about it. Do make sure that NetBIOS isn't allowed through if it is listed and allowed through in ZA.

Best bet is to either set all your COM ports to AUTO, or load DEFAULT SETTINGS on your BIOS. Something must have been changed that you are not aware of.
