Intel promo for Copper gigabit Nics

Just a quick heads up for people that Intel is now promoting its 10/100/1000 Pro 1000T gigabit Nics, $65US. They will be available before the end of the year, this is just the "I'm interested signup".

I think they want a few beta testers to try out some evaluation units before they sell them ...

Yup, setting a static IP will speed up the boot cuz it doesn't have to search for the dynamic IP.

It probably wont affect surfing/gaming performance much. I don't know for 100 percent sure, but the only time a dynamic IP is different than a static IP is when it asks for a new IP when the "lease ...

For most people a T1 is a waste of money. It was good technology 10 years ago, but it is dying now. 1.544Mbits up/down isn't a whole lot of bandwidth for what the going rate is.

If this is for a serious app, you should be considering leasing 1/128th of a OC3 (or better) line. It will probably be ...

Use RG-6, its better for so many reasons.

As for types of RG-6, even a generic RG-6 will outperform ninety nine percent of brand name Rg-59 cable.

The two accepted leaders in the world of cabling are Belden and Commscope. (If anyone else knows of a contender please mention it)

IPV6 is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (or you can use a special ...

To the home, wireless is going to win for sure. If and when 802.11a gets going we will all have 54mbit/sec bandwidth over the air. It just costs too much to dig up the road to lay cabling.

The city<>city and continent links will still be fiber, but there will be no need to ever upgrade them ever ...

I dont think 'USB vs actual NIC' is so much a question of throughput as it is CPU utilization.

Makers of NIC's like 3COM and Intel have spent years on the NIC chipsets trying to reduce the strain on the CPU when up/downloading. EG: Parallel tasking and CPU offload features.

Then comes USB which ...
