Hiya,
Can anyone tell me what timestamping is and should I turn this on if I increase my RWIN? (128480)
I am not sure what the default setting is for XP . Thanks!
Carla
What is Timestamping?
What is Timestamping?
System spec:
Win XP SP1, P3-700mhz, 384ram, ADSL PPPOE 1500/256 - RWIN = 64240

Set Tcp1323Opts to 0 or 1 for you, this turns off timestamping which you dont need, set Tcp1323Opts to 3 to turn on:
What is Tcp1323Opts ?
Tcp1323Opts Large window support ( supported only in Windows 98 and later ). Used when an application requests a Winsock socket to use buffer sizes greater than 64K. In previous implementations the TCP window size was limited to 64K, this limit is raised to 2**30 through the use of TCP large window support as defined in RFC1323 and implemented in Winsock 2. Tcp1323Opts also controls Timestamps.

if RWIN is below 65535=0
above 65535=1

if RWIN is below 65535=0
above 65535=1

also recomented with ping instability (deviations in pings values)
it "cost you" additional 12 from your MTU
but
my ISP on firmware PPPoE has TimeStamps ON as default
details on my ISP - service: NeostradaPlus (asdl, PPPoE, 512/128, dynamicIP) ISP tpnet.pl
http://www.point-topic.com/scripts/dire ... ompany=105 Telekomunikacja Polska (TPsa)
DSLreports tpnet.pl http://www.dslreports.com/archive/tpnet.pl results
:2cool: Acctualy I NOT use & NOT install ISPfirmware but PPPoE router....
you can also use PPPoE mechanism from wXP or w2k
...but in my CN setting TimeStamps ON
exactly Tcp1323Opts=2 (WindowScaling off; TimeStamps ON)

pure quality of ISPservice - data flow
value in Tcp1323Opts = WindowScaling | TimeStamps
=0 off | off
=1 ON | off
=2 off | ON
=3 ON | ON
PS IMHO & BTW with your router your settings...

but in OS will be TCP/IP plain (with out ISPfirmware)
pay attention in your registry or CN
despite settings TCP/IP Analizer result MTU will be from router
in setting MTU value should be exactly the same as router (or MTU=1500)
but RWIN should by from router MTU
