Forcing AGP 4X

Post by Brent »

KD7-RAID (VIA KT400)

need to force it down to AGP 4X instead of it defaulting to AGP 8X with an 8X card in there...

anyway to force it down to 4X?

i've tried using rivatuner and powerstrip but it wouldn't let me change it

and i don't see any options in the BIOS

nope, don't see it, check out what it says in my manual about the AGP Data Transfer Rate:

"Two options are available, 2X and 4X, If you install the AGP adpater that supports AGP 3.0 , this item will dissapear"

damnit

so in AGP 3.0 (8x) the option isn't there in the BIOS

thats why i haven't seen it

but i still need to force 4X

anyway with a software program?

Why can't you do it in powerstrip? It wont save the setting or you can't access it?

brent -- i think there's a pretty big voltage difference between 3.0 and 2.0..so i think it's safe to say that unless the board can shoot .8v to the agp slot w/ 2.0 standard..then it won't work..and that's probably why it disappears (i think 2.0 is 1.5v and 3.0 is .8v)..so i don't think so buddy. I doubt it's possible unless they've some good engineers.. on the flip side, this is just my reasoning through it and i'm certainly not an electrical engineer or board designer..so maybe they could add it w/ a bios upg.
