Yes! If you format you wipe the entire disk clean.

So better backup all files that you don't want to lose and also write down the email account information/ any other settings that you won't remember off hand.

Cheers,
Ronald

open outlook express. go to tools>options. click the "maintenance" tab, now click the "store folder" button. that directory is where the emails are kept, back that up

if you have more than one account for windows or have more than one identification for outlook express, you have to backup each folder

when you're done formatting, put your backed up folder in that same directory and change the store folder to the backed up folder

good luck

How do I save the address book? I can print it and re-enter it but there must be a way of saving it to a floppy disk.

Look for a .wab file for the address book.

Right you are. I've got that software but it doesn't back up the address book because my wife used Outlook first before going to Outlook Express. Now when you use the program it says that it won't back up the address book because it was stored in Outlook first.

I'll look for the .wab file when I get home.

Any other tips???

Maybe there is a difference between the "free trial version" and the full-blown "I paid for it" version.

I'm using the free one. Perhaps I should register it and see what happens (more bells and whistles).

Thanks Jarngrimr.

:)

*edit*

Lots to do when I get home.

Score!

I found both (the wife has two address books) and imported them into her new system (a better computer than mine BTW).

Worked like a dream.....

Thanks!

:2cool:

Just another point about moving files around, instead of overwriting the old file, rename it to addressbook.wab.old

This way if something goes south, you can always restore it.

You could just export them as a .csv(comma seperated values) and then import them into whatever also as a .csv file.

I keep all my favoritres, outlook express, and my documents in a folder i created on my storage drive called "user" with the subdirectories of favoritres, outlook express, and my documents. i never have any trouble backing anything up anymore...

once i format, i just use TweakUI and point my favorites and my docuements towards those folders and point OE toward that folder using the "store folder" button

gotta love it
