Wireless Networking

Post by Periwinkle »

Ok , I have a desktop running XP HOME , and a laptop running XP HOME as well. I need to know what I need to buy , to network the two so they can be online at the same time. I got confused when I was looking at PCI cards and there was a GAP in the back for what looked like a laptop like card to go in.... So , I come to the smart ones at SPEEDGUIDE! :D Thanks for helpage :)

Actually you have several different options.

1 .Both machines must have a Network card (NIC)
2. You can use what is called a crossover cable to connect the machines thru the network cards. Big disadvantage here is that the machine connected to the Internet connection has to be on.
3. You can get a router and connect them with cables
4. You can go the wireless router way.

I`m sure some of the other great people here will also respond and help too.

Might start your research with a trip to the linksys or dlink websites.

Good luck...........
