Most incomming data is damaged

Hi.
I've mailed my ISP about this problem, but I haven't got any response yet, so I kinda was hoping maybe someone around here could have some useful input.

The problem is basicly most of the incomming data is damaged.
If I download .zip files above 10 MB I usally get CRC, and I can retry downloading it up to 10 times before the CRC checksum is correct.

I have DSL via a router. This router can be hooked up to a hub and act as a gateway and all the computers on the LAN get IP like 10.0.0.x (So you get the clue how it works.)
Also, I don't need to dial up my connection, it's just like sitting on LAN.
The router is manufactered by NetOpia.

Also I have had 2 computer on the DSL with a hub, but I've also tried just connection one computer directly to the router since the power supply of the hub is a bit weird..
Anyway, removing the hub didn't solve the problem.

This problem have started just recently, and I have had the DSL for 3 months now. I've never had any problems like this with my DSL before.

Could my problem be lots of noise on the line?
If so, why haven't I had this problem before?

Thank you.

What is your cache limit set to in your browser.
Re: IE Temporary Internet Files?
If it's set too low, you'll have this problem. You can't download files larger than the allocated space for temp IE files without getting corrupted files.

Also, try clearing your cache and see if that helps.

Well, Im not using IE for downloading, Im using a p2p application.
Yes, I thougt that too, maybe it's the applications fault, but everything else I download with other applications are corrupted too.

But, I got the TCP/IP parameter (registry)patch from the main speedguide site, and now everything seems to be fine.
I did 4 test downloads with the new parameters of a few demo-games I couldn't download without CRC and other errors before, and all of them was ok now.
Last time I tested (before patching) all of them was corrupted.
All demos where over 100 MB, so I kinda concludes the problem is gone.

However, Im downloading some big files with the p2p program again, and see if they are corrupted again. If they are I will go nuts, if they don't the problem is fixed.
I'll let you know the results when Im done.

And thanks for replying! :)

Have you tried hooking the one computer up directly to the dsl modem to see if you get the same problem? Also have you tried any other type of downloading utility other then you p2p program you are currently using? Also as far as using a router with dsl, although most ppl prefer it, im not one for routers considering dsl is usualy pretty simple to network using the software provided by the dsl company you can install that on every computer and just run the dsl modem thru the hub and connect each computer to the internet using the same login and pass as your original computer. Now im not sure that this works with all dsl but i do know most that use winpoet are capable of this. I figured i would let you know bout that just in case you have problems with you downloads due to your router. Also why is your power supply wierd with you hub?

Yes, I tried to connect directly.
...but everything else I download with other applications are corrupted too.
That includes IE (both http and ftp), KaazaLite, WinMX, eDonkey2000, and all the others I use.

Hub is no longer in use cause of the power-witch problem, and I have now switched cable between splitter and router, and I have moved my router futher away from my speakers.

If any these actions did the trick I'll let you guys know.

do you have sdsl or adsl? sdsl needs it's own dedicated jack - no splitters allowed. adsl you can just slap a filter on the line that already has a phone and go.

Have you tried transfering large files on your LAN - just to rule out something local.

edit: you might want to try running this test http://www.dslreports.com/tweak . It can provide some info that mightbe useful.

Not likly, since I've formated just hours before I made the first post.
Could it be the duplex mode causing loss?
My router is using half-duplex.

Im looking at my routers statestics, and it says it has around 853 000 Tx Error(s) and 1 Rx Error(s) on Ethernet LAN.

Can someone explain what Tx and Rx is?? :)
Please? My connection is almost useless in the current state.. :(

Tx is transmit. Rx is receive.

After som testing with my NIC I managed to get rid of Tx and Rx errors when I manually selected duplex-mode.
I have no clue why I got all those errors when I use hardware default or auto..

Anyway, my router doesn't detect any more Tx/Rx errors, but incomming data is still damaged...

I take it you have a cayman 3300 series from netopia, it may be the built in firewall doing all the bad stuff to you can ,you disable it

I have NetOpia 4542.
As far as I know it doesn't have firewall settings, only IP filter and NAT. But I have filtered all used ports to my computer and same with the NAT.

The damaged data occoured after I came home from school one day, and my router was shut off.

Thanks for all the response! :)
