how big is your harddrive.. the whole harddisk?
O you didn't compress the drive or did you?
by the way.. you should be advised that WindowsXP is so bloated.. it really needs that extra space.

that is a smart@ss remark.. but your prolly right.
Sometimes WindowsXP preinstalled systems come with way too much stuff, and when them people cleanup the useless stuff bundled with the pc.. and partition the drive.. They also forget that when using the restore disk they got from the retailer, it installs all that stuff back on the harddrive.
I found out that using windows Me on HP, I did a cleanup, and only needed 1.5 GB. But something happened and I needed to restore with the retailers restore disk, and it chewed up 8GB, and I went balistic.
Live and learn. I purchased a Copy of Window Me. and now it only needs 638MB, to use all the stuff I usually use thats all it uses. Go figure!
Windows XP did the same on My Sony chewed up lots of Harddrive space, because it is bundled with lots of useless things.
when I say useless I mean I find third party software that uses less space to do the same things, if not more.
I'm Anti-XP. but I've learned some stuff that I'll forget about it.

Did you format the drive first and do a clean install?

Sorry didn't mean to be a smart ass. I was thinking it may have indicated it was going to use 2 meg to install. And then after the install XP set up the virtual memory page file which added to the total, causing the confusion.

Page file rings a bell. XP page file default is a hog.
Backed up previous settings if you reinstalled without formatting first.
System restore can take a lot of room too.
hmmm

I did reformat the drive when I installed XP. There are also no programs on the disk that came with HP, I uninstalled them all because I didn't need them. How do I take a screen-shot on my computer so I can show you my info on the computer?

Alright.. go through the steps that you gone through to reformat..
Because I think that you only repartitioned and installed another copy of Windows XP.
I might be wrong.
Let me tell you this, you can't possibly clean up and then reinstall Windows XP, with the retailer Disk; expecting it to not install the other stuff included on the disk.
The Windows XP/HP restore Disk restores your system back to the state in which it was when you first booted the computer to Windows XP. Meaning your computer will restore all the stuff bundled on the computer at the time you firs booted.
If you have a Original Copy of Windows XP minus the HP bundled crap. then we can get your Windows XP working.
But as it stands, we don't really know what you did so far in detail.. so if you were to provide that info. We can clear up the confusion.

I did not use the retail disk that came with my computer. The retail disk that came with my computer reinstalls Windows ME.

Okay now that we cleared that up..
Some things are just not adding up.
Please,
tell us what you have done to your computet thus far.
Meaning what procedure did you go through to create partition, and reformat your harddrive.
and whether you used drive compression on the hard drive.
Basically, what you have told us is not enough info.. like someone saying "alienz in chicago", but what vehicles did they have to get there? That is our question to you.

I seriously think that there still may be another partition still in my drive. When i reinstalled the whole OS I just wrote it over the partition I used before. If there still is another partition in my drive, how do i look for it in the registry?

umm you don't want to look in the registry..
its better to prepare yourself for a complete FDISK. And reformat..
