I have this new computer that works great. It has ISDN and the modem is a serial port type. And its a 3com, like I said everything works great.

But... I got a DVDrom drive for the PC and I noticed when I play a DVD and I'm connected to the internet and downloading my internet connection stops working. Stop playing the DVD and it starts working!

I tested this when a DVD is playing my downloads stop, webpages want load and my modem want connect to the internet. Stop playing the DVD and everything works.

Any ideals on whats going here? This is crazy and I have never heard of this happening.

My advice; Be "Anti-XP"
and all will be just fine.

Have tried several, just seems when I use my DVDrom it makes my modem not work. Stop the DVD and the modem works.

Your not Anti-XP.. bummer..
well if you have any spyware of the sort on your computer it may be the culprit.
Not sure what the name of it is but you'll have better luck if you run a spyware scanner on you computer.. try using a different DVDrom, if you are trying to share on the internet from your DVDrom by accident it could be conflicting with your Connection.
Check it out. I've seen people share files on there cdrom and try to play mp3's on the cdrom at the same time and it really confuses the hell out of them. I'm just trying to help you out.. If I could explain your situation with having had it happen to me I'd understand it from your point of view.
Tell me what kind of things its doing .. is it dropping the connection all together or is it showing your ISDN is comming and going.. redialing .. tell us what is happening exactly.

Thanks for the advice! And I'm a big fan of win98se.

I have no spyware on my HD and use XPantispy and AtomicXP.
And the DVDrom is not shared are used by anything.
I like PowerDVD for playing my DVD's.
This is just freaky! I can set here and have a download going and then start a DVD and watch it stop and not send or recieve any packets/info.... I also disconnected from the internet and started a DVD and tried to connect to the internet and it would not. Stopped the DVD and everything works as it should.

I hope I can trace this down and fix it.

Sounds like a resource conflict

I have a AthlonXP 1800+, 512mb ram and use PowerDVD.
Have tried all the DVD software players and it just does it.

Also does it when I just copy something from the DVD to my Harddrive.

There are no IRQ conflicts.

sounds like to me there is a bug in your raid setup. Try disable your raid in you CMOS. and see if still does it.

IRQ is okay, what about I/O address or DMA conflicts?
Have we ruled out drivers?
Duh (slapping myself), You're on XP right?. Have you tried looking through the event logs for possible answers?
There are no IRQ conflicts.

The DVDrom is not on the raid. And I can copy files to and from my raid drives and it does not cause this.

There are no conflicts and there is no crashing.
Everything is working fine until I use my DVDrom... then my modem stops responding till I stop using the DVDrom!

I have done alot more testing...

I have burned cd's, I have did videocapture and played games and none of this messed with my modem are caused this weird problem.

It seems only my DVDrom does this. I cant use my DVDrom in any way what so ever are it causes my modem to stop working???
As soon as I stop the DVDrom the modem starts responding :(

I have did more testing and have found this out.

I can play VCD's in my DVDrom and the modem does not stop responding, I can also put regular cd's in my DVDrom and they can be copied from or stuff installed and the modem want mess up.

But I stick a DVD in the DVDrom and use it in anyway it will make the modem stop responding till I stop using the DVDrom!

Oh man this is crazy!!!
Anyone ever saw this happen before?
